Character History

Born on Bajor, Lan was smuggled off of his home world as a child and adopted by retired Starfleet officer named Samuel Russell and his family. Having been raised on Earth with little contact to other Bajorans, Lan did not get much exposure to the ways of the Prophets and Bajoran religious beliefs. After completion of his term at Starfleet Academy, Lan wished to be assigned to Deep Space Nine in order to help find his parents and learn more of his heritage. He was lucky enough that placement on DS9 was indeed available, however, when he arrived, he discovered his parents had been killed years ago in the Labor Camps. He also discovered that he cared little for the religion of the Prophets. This made him feel an uneasy, being so close to Bajor and his highly religious people. He immediately requested transfer and it was granted. His first starship mission is on the USS Virgo.

On April 23, 2383, Lan was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade for his valor in a campaign led by Captain Maruu on Xenon III.
