On the Bridge, Lt. Lataro stood at his post examining his console and the schematics of the magnificant USS Virgo. It was not as hard as he had thought it would be to learn about every nook and cranny. Captain Maruu was sitting at his chair reading the PADDs that the yeoman brought him when the call came in... a disturbance in the Virgo's forward oberservation lounge.
Out to space for just a couple of days and already problems, Lataro thought.
"Security team to the observation lounge," Lt. Lataro bellowed. Seeing that this was the Virgo's first mission with the current crew, it may have been better for Lataro to have investigated personally, but he had wasted very little time once he came aboard. Lataro had already examined each security officer's dossier and previous evaluation and has determined that his security teams are one of the finest ever assembled in Starfleet. Earlier that day, a staff meeting hd been held, and he laid out exactly what was to be expected. Protocol, regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures were all to be followed precisely with no deviations. He was the one that was to make the deviation if needed, and that was only after counsel with HIS superiors. Lataro's staff understood and complied and were empowered to conduct operations as needed maintaining order aboard the Virgo. It seemed to work.
Jonathan didn't quite know how to read the captain at this moment. Earlier he tried to initiate idle conversation with Captain Maruu and made the comment regarding the Virgo as his first assignment. It was met with a response that made Lataro kind of stand back. He didn't mean to offend the captain, but rather try to impress him with his knowledge of him. It seemed to have backfired. Sobeit. I will just have to impress him in other ways, he thought.
[Lt Lataro, please come to the observation lounge.]
"On my way. Sir?"
"Proceed Lieutenant," said Captain Maruu.
Jonathan went to the turbolift and was wisped away. In a matter of minutes, the door opened just outside the lounge. A large ruckus was heard through the bulk head. Lataro entered the lounge to see one of his security guards laying on the floor, blood pouring from his nose. Tables and chairs that once were orderly now lay in various areas of the room. Shards of broken glass were strewn all over the room and two of his security guards were holding two crew members back.
"I ever see you make eyes at my wife again, I will kill you!" one yelled trying to break free of the hold.
"I will do what ever I please. And so would she!" the other yelled as loud.
"Hold on here!" Lataro yelled. "What seems to be the problem?"
"On DS15 I caught this guy trying to make a pass at my wife!"
"So I was, what are you going to do about it!" the other yelled.
"First of all, this is not DS15. There are no wives here and you two are going to have to break this up!"
"This guy is making a big deal about it."
"Big deal is right. That is my wife."
"And?"
"Cool it right now or spend time in the Brig," Lataro said.
"Ha! You have no authority to put anyone in the Brig. The captain orders who goes into the Brig."
"Oh really! Lt. Lataro to Captain Maruu."
[Go ahead, Lieutenant.]
"Sir, we have a situation here where by a few crew members are questioning my authority."
[Really...and what is the authority they seem to be questioning?]
"Sir, just how much POWER do I have?"
[Lieutenant, you have the authority needed to maintain the safety and security of this vessel.]
"To include?"
[Do whatever necessary! Everything under control down there?]
"Absolutely, Sir. Lataro out. So with that in mind, who would like to throw the first...well I guess the second punch?" Lataro said looking at his injured guard.
"Not me sir. I am done."
"Same here."
"Good! Now, first thing, you both will report to the Entertainment Director and get a broom and clean this lounge. I don't want to have to drink sitting on glass and broken funiture. Second, you will report to me every day this week after your scheduled shift for duties as assigned. Do I make myself clear, Ensigns?"
"Yessir." They proceeded to clean their mess while Lataro escorted his guard to Sick Bay.
"Oh boy," Lataro whispered in the turbolift heading for the Bridge. "I hope there won't be much more of that."
"So Mr. Lataro," the captain said as Jonathan resumed his post. "Everything taken care of?"
"Yessir."
"Good."
Oh boy!!!
