The familiar tingly sensation ensued the away team as their atoms were disassembled and transferred onto the Kirusan ship. As their atoms rematerialized, sparks from wires dangling from the ceiling lit up the narrow corridor. The ship was dark and very crude. It reminded the away team immediately of a Klingon Bird of Prey; not designed for comfort but for function. A resounding buzzer echoed through the ship immediately piercing through the team's ears.
"Ensign Trent, see if you can disable that sound!" Lataro yelled over the buzzer.
"I'll see what I can do. Barrows, come with me," Trent replied.
"Garza and I will head up this corridor. Hopefully we might be able to get to this ship's bridge. You two go ahead and head for engineering. Be careful!"
"Lataro to Virgo."
[Go ahead Lieutenant,] answered the Captain.
"Sir, it looks like this ship took a good amount of damage. I guess they had never anticipated ever getting hit with their own missile."
[Could be, Jon.]
"Sir we are heading for the bridge. Maybe we can download some information."
[Very well. Keep this channel open. Virgo out.]
"Let's go Garza. Set you phaser to stun."
"Aye, Sir."
The corridor seemed to continue about 50 meters straight. Surprisingly, there were no bodies laying around. This made Lataro nervous. As they reached the end of the hall there was a door with unrecognizable markings on it. The buzzing finally stopped.
[Trent to Lt. Lataro.]
"Go ahead!"
[Sir, we made it to engineering or rather what looks like it. I have never seen this type of engine anywhere.]
"Bodies Ensign? Are there any bodies?"
[Yeah. About two or rather what's left of them. It looks like they received massive plasma burns to the head and neck area.]
The door was pushed aside which opened to what looks like the bridge. There too were the bodies of three beings, two at their posts and one sitting a chair that was placed in the middle of the bridge. This had to be the captain, Lataro thought.
"We just entered the bridge. Most of the equipment here looks like it's are still functional. Why don't you two come up here and see what you can make of it?"
[No problem. Give me a few minutes. There is a lot a debris here.]
"Fine. Lataro out. Garza, set up data transfer protocols so that we can download the ship's log into the Virgo's computer."
Garza worked quickly. He set up his tricorder to send information to their ship and coupled it to the enemy ship's main computer. "Sir, it is ready!"
"Virgo, begin data transfer."
<Transfer initiated,> answered the computer.
[Everything okay over there?] Captain Maruu asked.
"Aye sir. There might not be too much we can do over here."
[Okay. Hurry the transfer along. I don't like to be sitting in this spot for to long. Virgo out.]
"Lieutenant, you might want to see this," Garza said from on the other side of the bridge.
"What do you have?" There in the captain's chair was a body slouched back. A piece of shrapnel had lodged in the back of his head. Lataro examined the features of the captain. He was a large being, comparable to an average size Klingon, with greyish-blue skin. His brow had ridges around his eyes and side of his face that seemed to connect at his chin. It almost gave him a heart shaped facial structure but the ridges pointed upward at the bridge of his nose. Their eyes were narrow slits that instead of lining left to right were arranged up and down. They had a slight snout with large incisors that protruded from a slight underbite giving them an appearance similiar to a terran hog. They dressed in uniforms almost similar to Cardassian soldiers, to include the rather large shoulder apparatus which gave them a triangular shape torso. The hair of the beings were long and matted.
"Interesting." All of sudden a flash of light zipped across the room just barely missing Ensign Garza. It seemed to originate at the far side of the room near what seems to be the viewscreen. "Garza can you see what is firing at us?"
"Sir, it looks like there are survivors!"
"Return fire! Crewman Barrows, what is your status?"
[Sir, we hear the phaser fire,] Barrows answered. [We will be there right away.]
"Stand fast and wait for my orders!" Lataro yelled over phaser fire.
"Yes, sir!"
The bulkheads rocked and wired sparked as overshot phaser fire struck the objects. Small fires broke out illuminating the area where the fighting survivor stood ground. "Sir I can't get a clean shot!" Garza yelled.
"Lataro to Virgo."
[Go ahead.]
"We are under phaser fire. How much longer till data transfer is complete?"
[One minute.]
"Trent, Barrows return to the ship!"
No argument was given. Trent and Barrows immediately were transported back to the ship. However in the bridge was a different story. Nothing can be done. This soldier had laid enough fire that it seemed that there were more than one person. But this was not stopping Lataro. He returned fire. His last shot hit the weapon of the survivor just a final shot was released. This shot hit Garza in the shoulder and knocked him back over the captain's chair and onto the floor unconscious. The survivors weapon exploded as it received the phaser fire from Lataro's weapon and sent him back against the wall with a loud thump. This did nothing but to anger the blast victim, he charged at Lataro's position. Lt. Lataro just smiled. Yes! Come meet your death! he thought as he holstered his phaser.
"You will not beat the mighty Kirusan Empire!" the attacker yelled as he soared through the air. Lataro rolled out of the way of Kirusan as his mighty legs came crashing down where Lataro once was positioned. Now they were face to face, hand to hand. Lataro loved it! A large clawed hand of the Kirusan soared through the air aimed at Lataro's head. He saw it coming and side stepped it and with all the strength he could muster planted a kick to the Kirusan's midsection. He gasped as the foot came down. It had completely taken him by surprised, but almost as reflex the back side of the claw came around and connected with Lataro's face, throwing him back.
"Hmmm. Not bad!" The Kirusian said with a smile. "I see you bleed well!"
"Yeah you will see. I am full of surprises," Lataro replied as he did a flutter step and flying roundhouse kick. The foot connected with the side of the Kirusan throwing blotches of yellow blood from his mouth. Immediately after he gathered his senses, the Kirusan reached out and tried to grab Lataro, as he did Lataro grabbed it and ducked underneath the arm jerking the arm and then down. As he jerked it down he heard a snap as a bone in captured arm broke. The Kirusian just yelled.
"Bones that can break huh?" Lataro said as he let go of the arm and saw his enemy try to nurse the broken arm. The Kirusan looked up at Lataro and just stared at him. Lataro noticed the Kirusan's eyes to begin to glow red. He didn't like that so he ducked. As he did a red flash followed by a ray similiar to phaser fire fired from his eyes. The bulkhead behind Lataro exploded.
<Hull breach in 30 seconds,> A rough-sounding, male voice said. It came from the Kirusan ship.
Uh oh!!! Lataro thought, I need to get out of here!!!
Lataro flew forward and braced his hands upon the shoulders of the Kirusan as the momentum of his flight carried him up and over him. Lataro executed a double flip and landed behind the Kirusan about two feet from Garza who was still lying on the floor unconscious.
"Virgo! Two to beam aboard NOW!" Lataro yelled.
<Hull breach in 20 seconds,>
[Can't get a lock, Lieutenant. Standby.]
"Damn it Chief! I can't standby just do it!" Lataro yelled frantically.
[Energizing.]
The Kirusan was stunned by that desperate maneuver and began to turn around; his eyes again glowing red. The broken arm seemed to slow down the Kirusan but he was still not fast enough to catch the dematerializing Lataro and Garza. They rematerialized aboard the Virgo and immediately told the Captain what had happened. They had less than 10 seconds to get out of the vicinity or they will be caught in the wake of the explosion.
Location: USS Virgo
"Ensign K'Lara. Get us out of here maximum warp!" Captain Maruu said.
"Aye, sir," K'Lara said as she punched the ship as fast as it would go.
"Shields up!" Surok yelled.
The ship flew far and flew fast as the Kirusan ship exploded. The after blast rocked the ship slightly but the shields protected them. They were out of harm's way.
"Commander, you have the Bridge," Captain Maruu said.
In Sickbay, Garza was recovering from his phaser burn, and Lt. Lataro was resting. The doctor had just finished with the dermal regenerator on his face.
"Jonathan, I am glad to see that you made it back," Captain Maruu said.
"Thank you, sir." Jonathan went into detail about what he saw and the Kirusan he encountered.
"Well, Lieutenant, I can't wait to read your report. As soon as your finished here, get to work on that and get that to me as soon as possible."
" Yes, sir."
