Lt. Commander K'Lara sat on her couch in her dimly lit quarters. Lt. Benton had assigned her to quarter confinement after he had asked the captain's permission to do so. He had also ordered that the pre-natal check-ups continue and for her to go to counseling.
K'Lara, though, just wanted to sleep. Sleep alluded her, though, and she was now sitting on her couch. The stars were not even soothing to her anymore. Now, they were just reminders of how her world came to an end. She dared not look at them now, for fear of breaking what little strength she had left.
If only I had gone with you, Jon, K'Lara thought. I could be with you now instead of all alone. How I wish you were here.
K'Lara was brought out of her thoughts by the door chime. She tried to ignore it, but it became persistent.
"Enter already!" she growled.
The door opened and Ensign Francesca Milano stepped inside. The door closed and she was immediately cloaked in near darkness.
"For crying out loud, Commander, this place is too dark."
"Funny, I thought it was perfect. Fits my mood just great."
Milano shook her head, even though K'Lara couldn't see it. "Computer, lights on forty percent."
K'Lara winced as the lights came on. She did not realize that she had been sitting in the dark for nearly an hour. She opened her eyes to see that Milano had her tricorder with her. It was obviously time for the pre-natal check-up. K'Lara sighed and allowed the nurse to scan the baby.
"Hmmmm." she said as she read the results a few moments later. "You're baby is doing fine as usual. You're recent rampage didn't seem to affect the fetus much. I didn't get a chance to scan it when you were in the brig, but I believe it probably was a bit stressed."
"Your point?"
Milano stared at the half-Klingon. She knew what K'Lara could do when she was angered enough, but she had put her baby in danger, and that to her was inexcusable.
"You could have done some damage you the fetus, K'Lara. You put yourself and the baby under a great deal of stress. I want you to report to counseling tomorrow and get this under control."
K'Lara's eyes flashed, but she remained sitting. She hated being told what to do, especially during a lecture. She growled low in her throat, but she nodded. It did not good for the baby at all, that she knew. If nothing else, she could at least do this for the child.
"Good," Milano said, smiling. "Before you know it, you'll be back to your old self."
K'Lara only nodded, though deep down she knew that without Jon, she would always be alone.
