"Evil Strikes a Blow"

Author: Richard Merk
Earthdate: Virgo's Return
Location: Secured science labs

The shuddering of the ship subsided and the overhead lights flickered fitfull back to life throughout most of the ship. Within the secure, inner rooms of the science section however, the lights remained off.

The double doors of the science lab slid open admitting a shaft of bright light that slanted across the otherwise dark floor and splashed across a work table. The doorway framed the dark sillouette of a woman, backlit by the illumination in the hallway beyond. The body of a crewman lay crumpled on the deck just outside, a dark burn-like mark faintly visible on the back of his neck. The woman holstered her phaser and stepped into the room, and the doors slid shut again, plunging the lab back into darkness.

A new light flicked on now, and from it's weaving motion, it was apparently held in the woman's hand. The light moved unerringly toward the work table; the only sounds were the woman's carefull footfalls.

When the footsteps reached the table, they stopped, and the light swept back and forth across the tabletop a few times, searching. When it found a small, flat, rectangular object, it stopped. The woman moved closer, reached out her other hand, and picked the thing up.

It was the Quantum Mirror.

An evil snicker issued from the black form that was the woman, and a moment later, the chirp of a communicator locator-beacon. In answer, a low harmonic hum began rising in pitch and volume. The familiar shimmer of a transporter beam formed around the woman, and for a few moments there was enough light to see her face. As the transporter effect cycled down, returning the room to darkness yet again, the last sight visible was the evil and triumphant grin of Alysa Ann Sinclair.

Section 31 had struck again.
