The Aftermath of Battle

After leaving Corporal Hendricks behind, he followed J'ross into the medical centre. He looked around at the small area, with dozens of injured lying or sitting where they could. Rahel was attending to the most seriously injured, along with the colony medics.

"Lieutenant, what's the status of the injured ?" He asked.

"We've got a number of serious injuries, but nothing life-threatening." Rahel replied. "We might just get away with just five souls lost and we're going to do our best to keep it that way."

Rahel noticed Lieutenant J'ross holding her shoulder and stepped towards her.

"That looks like a nasty blast." She remarked.

"I've had worse." M'eko replied.

"Was there anything else I could do for you Logan ?" Rahel enquired, because as you can see we're rather overcrowded in here."

Logan took the hint and headed back out into the colony. Almost as soon as he came out and headed for the building where the Taurus crews were all staying, he was stopped by Private Jax.

"Lieutenant…" Garet said. Logan noticed that the Marine's eyes looked a little red as if he'd been crying. "…what will happen to the bodies ?"

"I really don't know ?" Logan remarked. "The colony doesn't have the facilities to keep the bodies in stasis and it could be a while before we get off this planet. So I guess we should speak with the colony leaders and arrange a funeral service."

"That's what I thought." Garet replied. "Sir, would it be OK if I said something at the ceremony ?"

"Of course." Logan replied. "I suppose you'll be talking about Waynewright, I think I read that you were at basic training together."

Garet was surprised that Logan knew about that and Logan noticed the look of surprise on his face.

"As chief of security, it's my job to know everyone who serves onboard ship, even the Marines." Logan explained.

Logan noticed Corporal Hendricks walking across the courtyard and called him over.

"Corporal, I'd like you to form a grave detail on the edge of the colony." Logan ordered.

"I'll get right on it." Hendricks replied.

"It can wait until tomorrow." Logan suggested. "I think we've all had enough to contend with today."

"Understood." Hendricks replied. "Will we be burying all the dead ?"

"I think all those who dies today should be together, don't you ?" Logan remarked.

Hendricks just nodded before walking away, closely followed by Garet.

Lieutenant J'ross appeared from the medical centre and noticed Logan looking down at the floor.

"Lieutenant !" She announced. "Are you all right ?"

"Fine, just all the action of today catching up with me." He replied. "How's the arm ?"

"The Doctor's managed to fix the skin, but it will take a few days for the fur to start to grow back. I hate losing fur, it's so itchy when it starts to grow back."

"How are you fixed for taking a look at that Jem'Hadar shuttle tomorrow ?" Logan asked. "Think you could get it above the atmosphere ?"

"We can try." M'eko suggested. "But I don't hold out much hope."

They both headed for the mess hall to get something to eat.
