Helm Officers

Guest Quarters

Zack was in his temporary quarters on Deep Space Nine, reading. There wasn't much to do whilst the Taurus was being repaired, so he'd decided to catch up on his reading. Suddenly his comm badge chirped and he tapped it.

[Captain Taybar to Lieutenant Dare.] The voice of Captain Taybar announced.

"Dare here Captain." Zack Dare replied. "Is there something I can help you with Captain."

[I need you to meet a new crewmember.] Aki explained. [Her name is Lily Barker and she should be transferring from the USS Eclipse in about an hour and a half.]

"Yes Ma'am." Zack replied, closing the link. *At last something to do. But why me ?*

Transporter Room Seven

An hour and a half later, Zack was standing in one of the transporter rooms awaiting the arrival of Lieutenant Lily Barker. He'd found out where she had been assigned temporary quarters, but he knew very little about her.

The transporter officer signalled that the Eclipse was ready to transport over Lily and Zack moved forward to greet her. The transporter activated and the form of a female officer in red appeared on the pad.

"Welcome aboard Deep Space 9, Lieutenant Barker if you will come with me I will show you to your temporary quarters." Zack stated. "I'm Lieutenant Dare, currently assigned to the USS Taurus. Captain Taybar, my commanding officer asked me to greet you and take you to your temporary quarters. I'm afraid I don't know when the Leviathan will arrive, but I'm sure you'll be comfortable in your quarters until they arrive."

Liz stepped off the pad and followed Zack to her temporary quarters. As they walked through the corridors, they realised that they had more in common than either of them had first thought. They were both Helm officers and both had graduated at the top of their piloting classes at the Academy, in effect they were rivals. But Lily had the seniority of rank, something that Zack recognised and respected. At least he now knew why Captain Taybar had assigned this task to him.
