Post Party Blues

After the promotion ceremony, the crew started to relax and mingle.

Ensign Barker noticed Lieutenant JG Shaka hovering near the bar and walked over to her.

"Congratulations Sir" Chu said holding out his hand.

"Do I know you Ensign" Shaka inquired.

"Sort of, we've 'bumped' into each other once, but we've not been officially introduced. I'm Ensign Chu Barker, one of the Assistant Science Officers. Also I'm your neighbour on deck eight"

Lieutenant Shaka paused for a moment. "Sorry about that, I'd just had a thought about how I could increase the efficiency of the SS drive and I wanted to try it out"

"Did it work?" Chu asked.

"I don't know yet, I've not managed to get the SS drive operational after our encounter with the Loreans and this little 'party' is just delaying the repairs. Also, I'm trying to integrate the long-range sensors into the SS drive systems, but I'm having problems with the subroutines that I'm using."

"Maybe I can be of help with that, if you like I could take a look at your subroutine. I've never met an engineer yet that could code an efficient subroutine. There's not really much for a Science Officer on a starship that's in spacedock." Chu offered.

*Who does this young Ensign think he is. Although I must admit I'm no programmer, might as well let him try. And it would mean that I could concentrate on the SS drive repairs.* Shaka thought.

"OK Ensign you're on, let's get out of here, all this attention is starting to get to me"

USS Leviathan - Deck 8, Crew Quarters

Twenty minutes later, Ensign Chu's door chimes rang and he walked over to the door controls. He already knew that it was Lieutenant Shaka, all that anger was hard for any telepath to ignore. "Come in Sir"

The Lieutenant stood in a clean gold jump suit, with her newly acquired pips.

"I've just brought the subroutine code over for you to look at, I can't stop. If I don't get the SS drive back on line soon, the Comm. Captain will start to get annoyed." Shaka said correcting herself.

She handed the data chips across and turned away, leaving Chu stood at the door.

Closing the door, Chu went over to the computer console on started to look at the subroutines.

*Not bad for a novice. Let us see if we can do anything with this*
