Drinks

Ensign Barker sat alone at a table waiting. He had been looking at the sub-routines that Lieutenant Shaka had given him and had made some progress. The lounge was almost empty, most of the people not involved in the repairs had taken the opportunity to get away from the ship.

He sat using the PADD he'd brought with him, trying to 'tweak' the subroutines even further.

Finally Lieutenant Shaka entered, saw the Ensign, ordered a drink from the replicator and walked over to his table.

"So have you made any progress Ensign ?" She inquired.

"You know I was surprised at these routines, they're good, well structured and efficient. However, I guess you didn't take the advanced programming course at the Academy. What to know how I know ?"

"Oh do tell Ensign" The Lieutenant said sarcastically.

"The advanced course has for the last five years included the programming of bio-neural systems. All I had to do to your coding was modify them to take full advantage of the bio-neural processors in the sensor array. That and incorporate a multimodal reflection sorting algorithm into the sub-routine set."

"But will they work Ensign" Shaka inquired.

"They'll work in theory, but there's no substitute for the real world. I guess we won't know just how well these routine will work until we actually get back out into space."

"That maybe soon, the repairs to the SS drive are almost complete, I'm just about to start my report for the Captain"

Ensign Chu finished his drink and rose from his chair.

"I guess I'll see you later, Sir you're obviously still busy." Chu said.
