Digging Up Ghosts

[Mister Ambrose, Please come to my ready room.] Captain Devore said through Ambrose's combadge.

"Acknowledged!" Kirk said as he turned in his chair and looked at the Captain's room sort of puzzled.

Ambrose approached the door and rang the chimes. "Enter," came a voice from the other side. He entered wondering what was going on. The Captain was at a picture on the nearest to the door when Ambrose came in.

"Mr. Ambrose, I've got something I need you to handle. It's very important to the ship and crew."

"Of course, Captain, " Ambrose said as Devore motioned Ambrose to sit down. Devore walked around his desk and sat down in his chair. He then looked the warrant officer over and began to speak.

"Mister Ambrose I need your help in finding some information on the Borg. I'm giving you 13 PADDs that contain information on the battle at Wolf 359. I want you to find information on any information on how the Borg manoeuvre and function in battle. It may be something that the others might have overlooked and I have been asking everyone who isn't all ready too overwhelmed to look over this data. I want a report in three hours. Understood?"

"Aye Captain," Ambrose said proudly.

"Get to work, Mr. Ambrose. Dismissed."

Ambrose went to the officer's lounge, PADDS in hand and went right to work. Forty-five minutes later Kirk had all ready found some interesting things. Immediately, he made note of them in a PADD that he was going to present to the Captain. Then he read some more and found another interesting point concerning certain Captains and their known tactics. Obviously, once being assimilated, that knowledge was known to the Borg and with Captain Picard as one of them, all current Starfleet battle plans and strategies didn't help that fact either.

After another hours of dissecting the information, Ambrose felt that he had enough information that will help the Captain form his opinion and strategy. Kirk gathered the PADDS and headed for the bridge. The Captain was sitting in his chair as Kirk walked on to the bridge. He went up to the Captain and said, "Sir, I have that information for you."

"Good Mr. Ambrose. Let's have it." Devore said smiling. *Ambrose is quite efficient!*

"The Borg knows all of Starfleet tactical manoeuvres both offensive and defensive. Since Wolf 359 and the assimilation of the hundreds of Starfleet Captains, they have a very in-depth knowledge of the 'textbook manoeuvres'. With Captains sticking to those established procedures, the Borg adapt and overcome quickly to every movement. So that is why we lose more ships every time we engage the Borg. They know our tactics."

"I see Mr. Ambrose. So what do you suggest?"

"We must not attack them according to tactical training. Obviously if we keep changing our tactics, we are sure to win." Ambrose said excitedly handing Devore the PADD of his findings.

Devore took the padd and looked over the notes shaking his head. "Good job. Mr. Ambrose. I guess you just gave Lieutenant Toran more work to do. Go ahead and take the helm. Steady as she goes Mr. Ambrose."

Kirk was pleased at the Captain's reaction to the news. *This must be a good thing.* He thought as he took the helm.
