Creeping Up On The Enemy |

Lieutenant Barker relaxed a little at his station. With all the activity of the last few hours, everyone on the Leviathan was totally on edge. As he sat back the pistol that he had been issued with dug into his chest, pulling the holster that it sat in against the nodes on his back. Everyone aboard the ship had been issued with at least a pistol and a knife. Most of the heavy gear was issued to the security staff and any volunteers from the other sections. The knife he had was a personal possession. It had belonged to a Jem Hadar soldier that Chu had killed, in fact the only person he'd ever killed face to face. The feelings that the events brought up were painful. Chu hadn't really wanted to be part of the fighting force, his parents had brought him up to know that fighting wasn't usually the answer. However, against the Borg, there was no other option, you were either fought or assimilated. Chu had learned the ancient art of Djurus, a defensive martial art that he'd learned while at the Academy. It hadn't been taught at the Academy and he'd spent months looking for a private tutor. Once he'd been performing his exercises on the holodeck, when Lieutenant Shaka had walked in wanting to use the holodeck herself. The sight of Chu throwing an obviously oversized Klingon like a rag doll had made her laugh. Wow was all she'd been able to say. Chu had promised to tell her more about the art if she was interested and tell her the story about how he'd first found out about it and his unusual instructor. "Lieutenant Barker, Is the refractive shielding operational ?" The Captain asked, bringing Chu back to full alert. Chu ran his fingers over the controls and checked everything was one hundred and ten percent. "Aye sir. All systems check out." He replied. The moment the Leviathan dropped out of warp, Chu brought the reactive shielding online. An idea born of the late twentieth century was hopefully going to allow them to get close enough to an armada of Borg vessels. All the crew had at least late twentieth and some very early twenty-first century hard weapons. Hoping to fight and defeat a twenty-forth century enemy with weapons three centuries old. "Approaching 5000 Km." Toran announced, "Still no evidence of our being detected." "Confirmed. Reactive shielding still 100 percent Sir." Chu stated to everyone on the Bridge. *Let's hope we can get to the 1000 Km mark without being detected* Chu thought. He knew more than anyone did that below 1000 Km, the Leviathan would be visible to the naked eye and that they would be spotted. The Captain had taken up the suggestion that all nonessential exterior lights should be turned off and the remaining be reduced to minimum levels. This would make the Leviathan a little harder to spot and every second that they remained undetected and closer to the Borg counted. They needed to be within 1000 Km of the furthest vessel so that they could transport all of the Quantum torpedoes in one go. The repair of the transporters had been made the number one priority once the plan had been formed. Chu also thought about what the Borg would make of a ship suddenly appearing 1000 Km behind them. |
