The humidity was at least 92%, the temperature nearly 32 degrees centigrade, and the corridor was dark. "Where am I ?" Toran said out loud He could hear screams all around him. People desperate to live, desperate to retain their individuality, desperate to resist the Borg. "Run Toran." A woman screamed directly behind him."Run !!!!!!" Toran turned to see a woman running from two Borg drones. "Mom," Toran called without realizing it. The woman struggled in vain against the vice like grip of the two drones. A few seconds later Borg nanites swarmed under her skin. Toran's mother was dead, only the Borg remained. "No!" Toran screamed as he watched to atrocity before him."This isn't happening." Turning on his heel he found that all four ways out were blocked and the Borg were closing in. "Resistance is futile." The drones repeated over and over as they converged on his position. "Resistance if futile." Toran snapped back into reality to find himself on the *Leviathan's* Bridge in the command chair. Devore was still in his ready room, probably waxing the brass. That's how it usually happened with these things. "Lieutenant." Ensign Ryder called from the tactical console."The Borg queen is in the Brig." "Have engineering set up a subspace dampening field around her cell." Toran ordered, "And I want guards on her twenty four hours a day. If that Borg bitch so much as farts I want to know about it. Have sickbay monitor her life signs at all times. If anything fluctuates I'll kill the bitch myself. IS THAT CLEAR MR. RYDER ?" Ryder looked at Toran, probably wondering why the Lieutenant had snapped at him."Yes sir." *The past few days have been more stressful that I realized,* Toran thought. "Mr. Ryder, I apologize for my outburst." "It's okay sir." Ryder responded diplomatically. "No it's not." Toran continued, "I let my personal feelings get in the way. I'm sorry." "Apology accepted sir." Ryder replied hoping to end the conversation. Toran had always thought it important to rectify public incidents in public. Officers had to know that their superiors were not perfect and did not view themselves as perfect. It increased morale also. *Only thing left now is to get the *Nile* aboard.* Toran thought. "Helm, as soon as the Nile is docked get us under way." |
