Gunnery Sergeant Richard Sharpe
January 25, 2384
Limerius IX

The evening sky loomed above as the sounds just ahead announced the Barien's encampment. The coolness of the night with seemingly stillness from around made Sharpe alert and watchful. The movements nearby are guarded and deliberately slow to keep noise down. Hendricks had first watch and Sharpe had the last one. Soon... very soon, it would be time for his unit's part of the operation. If Phanan was too succeed then Sharpe and his men had to make a good impersonation of a company size unit. Make it necessary for the guards around the POW camp to be reduced to help relieve the assault. Chaos was the key here as was violence. Looking at his chrono it was time to check in.

"Sergeant Sharpe to Major Phanan."

[Yes Sergeant ?] Phanan's voice replied in a special ear piece Sharpe was wearing.

"We've found a place to hole up for a bit. The Bariens have set up camp and we're about a hundred yards from their location. We'll keep tabs on them. Hendricks, Jorgenson, Boatner have a busy day planned for these guys tomorrow and they'll need their sleep." Sharpe looked at the bustling enemy camp that was slowly quieting down.

[Understood. Good work Sergeant and good night.]

"Sharpe out." The comms channel closed Sharpe picked up his sniper rifle and used the scope sensor to zoom in on the encampment. His mind ran over the plan.

At 05:00 the operation would commence with some aerial charges exploding above the encampment. Boatner would be in charge of keeping the enemy air arm busy. Hendricks and Jorgenson will lay down suppressive fire. Sharpe would be using the sniper rifle and a demo-tech pad to control motor fire. Sharpe's main job was to shoot anyone who seemed to grasp control of the situation whether officer or non-com. The name of the game was movement and all the Marines would have to move around. A regrouping site was chosen. Sharpe settled down to sleep and rested comfortably as if tomorrow was just an ordinary day.

(Else where at Phanan's Position)

Looking at his chrono Major Phanan saw it was one minute to 05:00 hours and he wondered if Sharpe was ready. The soldiers were anxiously ready waiting for some sign that the attack was underway. They would attack fifteen minutes after Sharpe's initial assault started. They only hoped that Sharpe and the team would be able to bring out the reserves and then make it out OK. As the chrono switched to 05:00, the whole west valley where Sharpe and his men was lit up in fire and explosions. Major Phanan and the others grinned in anticipation and started off on the final leg of the attack to free their comrades.

As they made their way they could see the troop transports heading that way. Matter of fact there was very little in guards present at the prison of war camp. Phanan wondered just how well Sharpe and his men had fooled the enemy to the size of their number. His answer was soon apparent as phaser blasts from outside the planet bombarded the West Valley in continuous streams of fire.

Had they been able to intercept the Barien communications he would have found out that the Bariens thought that an invasion force had landed. Troop commanders, NCOs and other leaders had seemingly been wiped out by an overwhelming force. The phaser fire was from the cruisers in orbit.

The plan had worked... but did it work to well ?
