Something On Sensors

James was working hard in the Astrometrics lab the only now functioning lab on the ship. Since the ships power had to be conserved as much as possible. He was using the sensor array and believed he picked up something, so he went back to the area where the scans were strongest. What ever it was was far away.

"Murphy to Bridge." He said after tapping his combadge.

[Bridge here what is it Ensign ?]

"Sir the long range sensors are picking up a M-class planet approximately thirteen light years away. Request permission to boost power to the sensors. If I'm right the planet will have resources we need."

[Ensign this is Lieutenant MacLeod. All I read is a Nebula at thirteen light years away.] Then Captain Devore came on the comm channel. [Ensign. Will a class XI probe work to get the data back to you ?]

"Yes sir. However it will take about three hours to configure it."

[Well Ensign, you had better get to work on it then shouldn't you ?]

"Aye sir and thank you sir."

Murphy waited and passed the time by reading up on the ships capabilities. When Commander Barker came in around 15:30 hours. He had thirteen Padds stacked in his arms.

"Okay Captain Devore wants a report from you on his desk in the morning. So you seem to have a long night Ensign." Barker said setting the Padd on the desk in the lab.

"Hey Commander, Murphy." Gordon said walking in to the lab as Barker was exiting.

"Hello Janet, Are you going to help me read this data ?" Murphy asked.

"Sure did you hear Ensign Kate Parker was killed early this week, actually murder is the word for it."

"What, that hasn't happened on a ship or station in over five years. Well I hope they find the killer. I can't say that I can spend much time worrying about it though. I have a lot of work cut out for me."

"I can help."

"You can, if you want to."

The two worked hard and were pleased with the findings and called Lieutenant Commander Barker back to Astrometrics. Barker came in and saw the information on the PADD and the huge view screen in astrometrics.

"Sir, the planet is hidden in the Nebula. It's M-class, I'm picking up every kind of mineral we need including a hell of a lot of dilithium. The only thing is that the nebula is half a light year long and two light years wide. It would take a shuttle craft over a week to get there and back."

Barker looked at the planet nodded his head in a pleasing manner. "Okay Ensign. Prepare a report and I'll go over this with the Captain. I'll talk to you in the morning. Why don't you take the rest of the day off."

"Aye sir."

James looked over at Gordon and smiled. He felt pretty good as he sat back in his desk chair gloating for a few minutes, before getting up and leaving. "Come on Janet. I will buy you dinner."
