It was getting towards the end of Rick's shift and he had been informed of the fact that Captain Devore had made an appointment for Shale to talk and have a session with Counsellor Devore. As the time grew near and the thought of actually seeing a Counsellor started to feel funny. He had heard that Counsellors could bring out things from a long time ago. He was afraid that maybe he had some suppressed feelings deep inside. "Okay sir, your shift is up." Cadet McCaffee said stepping down to the Helm. "Alright Cadet, kept your seat warm." Rick said with a smile as he walked off the Bridge to the turbolift. The Chief made his way to Lieutenant Commander Devore's office. His hands began to sweat, as he walked in and saw the Commander. "Sir, I'm Chief Shale. I had appointment for 15:30 hours." Shale said in a rather calm voice. "Yes come in and take a seat." She said pointing towards an empty chair. "So tell me what's bothering you Chief." Devore said with a smile and Padd in another. It was quiet for a minute and then Shale spoke. "I guess my lack of feelings over the recent deaths. I'm sorry they are dead, but happy it's them and not me." It was quiet for a minute. "I think I'm becoming my father over again." Shale finished. "Was your father that way towards death ?" Commander Devore asked Shale tried to remember his father but it was such a foggy memory he had to look at a picture of him to remember what he looked like. "My father told me when I was eleven, people die and you can't change it. I know now what he meant, I tried to change it many time and it's hit me in the face. Maybe this whole thing showed me that if I was an officer again, perhaps I could help other's from dying." Rick realised his reason for feeling the way he did. He held off becoming an officer, because he believed that Admiral's killed fellow Starfleet officers. However out here Captain Devore was the only one who could order men to their deaths. But he wouldn't with out a fellow officer's advise and one with battle experience to boot. "Thank you Commander I believe I know what's wrong." "And that would be ?" "I feel guilty about not becoming a Senior officer on the Leviathan before this battle happened. I think maybe if I would of accept Captain Devore's offer, I may of prevented a few deaths, and helped form a solid battle plan." "Okay chief. I will get back to. I need to do a little research." Counsellor Devore said, making a few notes on her Padd. Shale stood up and left for his quarters. |
