Logan was heading towards Deck one and the Captain's ready room. He'd finished his meal and his discussion with Lieutenant Lloyd in the mess hall. He'd arranged to meet her again in an hours time at the Stellar Cartography lab to go over some of the details recovered from the records of the rogue Jem'Hadar base. Logan hoped that somewhere in the records there would be something that would lead them to the rogue Jem'Hadar, but he wasn't too confident. He'd also looked over the Captain's plan to get the ship back to the Gamma quadrant, past the Dominion Dreadnought still docked at DS9. Although he didn't like the plan too much, he realised that there was no other way. But the Captain was putting the lives of the entire crew on the plan working and if it didn't work, there would be hell to pay with the 'brass'. He reached the outer door to the Captain's office and pressed the door chimes. The doors opened almost immediately and as Logan stepped, Lieutenant Moss stepped out. Once inside Logan found Captain Taybar, Commander Rashad and Lieutenant Commander J'ross already sat there, all with serious looks on their faces. Taking a vacant seat, he nodded at the three officers. "Lieutenant, how are you ?" Aki enquired. "How are the plans going ?" "I am glad to report that everything is in place for the diversion." Logan replied. "But I'm still not entire happy with the plan. Moving the Jem'Hadar through the ship could be dangerous, there's a chance they'll make an escape. Also they may still have valuable information on the rogue Jem'Hadar, taking them off the ship will also put a strain on my Security teams and those of the station." "We could always request that Colonel Phanan have some of his Marines assist you." Aki suggested. "That would help, but I'm still very sceptical about this plan ." Logan replied. "But that's not why am here. I have some bad news." All three officers looked at Logan, wondering what he could have. "This morning I received a detailed report from station security about a security breach. Logan stated. "Someone managed to get onboard the Taurus last night." "What sort of breach ?" Aki enquired. "And when ?" "The breach happened last night." Logan continued. "From the records sometime between the wedding ceremony and the end of the reception at Quarks. The breach was discovered at 01:30 hour's local time this morning during a routine patrol. Whoever did this was a professional, but they made one small mistake. When they left, there was one light in the Doctor's office still on." "But how did they get onboard ?" Commander Rashad enquired. "Aren't all the airlocks guarded and why didn't the internal sensors pick them up." "Station security don't know." Logan admitted. "No one accessed the ship from the airlocks and the internal sensors were operational, but only in the corridors and Jefferies tubes. Whoever did this transported directly into sickbay and deactivated and erased the sensor logs before anyone could be alerted." "Sickbay !" Aki remarked. "Why there ?" "Someone was covering their tracks." Logan stated. "Nothing was taken from the supplies and the replicators were not used. All they were interested in were the Jem'Hadar corpses we had in stasis." "But you said nothing was taken." M'eko stated. "So what happened ?" "They used a phaser to destroy the bodies." Logan said. "There's nothing left, not even any DNA residue." "But how ?. Surely the internal sensors would have picked up someone using a phaser." Rashad remarked. "Whoever did this was a professional. They knew exactly what they were doing." Logan stated. "They used a phaser on low dispersal beam on the bodies, it would have taken time, but the results would be that each and every body would have been broken down into individual atoms, which would then have been destroyed." "Do you think is was someone from the Dreadnought ?" Aki asked. "They would be the obvious choice." "Hard to tell." Logan said. "Whoever managed this must have used a narrow beam transporter of some kind. We know from various records that the Dominion had that kind of technology during the war and used it to pass through defensive shields of Federation vessels. But the Klingons and Romulans both have similar technologies, as does the Federation. There are over a dozen vessels within transporter range of the Taurus, including the Leviathan. Someone could have initiated the transport from any on of them. What's unexplained is how the transport is went undetected." "Well there's nothing we can do about it now ?" Aki remarked. "The bodies are lost, I would have like Doctor Kahfre take a look at them thought." Logan almost gave a sigh of relief, but caught it before it would show. The one thing about the bad news that was good was that Rahel had been spared the emotional upheaval of doing yet more autopsies. "I've increased the sensitivity on all the internal sensors, if anyone wants to transport onboard this ship, we'll pick them up." Logan stated. "I've also posted guards in all transporter rooms and we're running a deck by deck scan of the ship to see if we already have any stowaways." "Well done." Aki stated. "Commander Rashad, Lieutenant Commander J'ross, I'd like a word with the Lieutenant alone." The two officers left the room and Logan moved forward and took the seat directly opposite the Captain. "Was there something you wanted to talk to me about ?" Logan asked. "Yesterday, Lieutenant Wright received a message." Aki stated. "It threatened to kill him. He has no idea who might have sent it, the message was anonymous and sent via a double blind terminal. There's no way to trace it, even with his skills." "And you'd like me to investigate this." Logan suggested. "We might be able to trace back the path the message, but it will take some time. Plus there's no guarantee that we'll reach the sender, but we maybe able to discover the original sub-space transmitter." "That's unfortunately not our only threat today." Aki continued. "We've had a second threat made against a member of this crew." "Who ?" Logan asked. "Lieutenant Moss." Aki replied. "And his wife. But this time, we know who's after him. His name is Klang, a former Klingon Intelligence agent, who for over five years worked with Starfleet Intelligence. He's also responsible for the death of Dawn Moss, the Lieutenant's first wife and from what the Lieutenant has just passed onto me, is the leader of a rogue group calling themselves Omega. Although he said he had no proof, I also got the impression that the Lieutenant believed that this Omega group might have links with our Jem'Hadar friends." "I'll assign security details to all three." Logan stated." I'd also like permission to set-up an active trace on all three and monitor all incoming transmissions." "Already arranged." Aki stated. "Commander Rashad is going to place some covert camera's in his quarters and monitor all incoming transmissions. She's also going to work on any leads she can find. However, I'd like you to ensure that there's always a security team close by, just in case." "I'll check through all the crew records and see if I can find any
possible suspects for either threat. With the sensor sweeps we're already
doing, it won't be hard to keep a tail on them all." Logan stated.
"And if anyone is hiding, we'll find them." "Yes Captain." Logan confirmed. "We'll be ready to leave in two hours." Logan rose from his chair and headed out of the door. Elsewhere on the ship, someone had been watching and listening to the conversation in the ready room. Everything was going to plan and soon Lieutenant Wright would be dead. If anyone got in their way, then more fool them. This threat to Lieutenant Moss was a bonus, it would split the Security teams up looking for two targets. The one thing that puzzled them was the talk about this plan to get past the Dominion Dreadnought. They'd not been onboard the Leviathan too long and the few surveillance devices they had been able to plant, were in key areas like the Bridge, Captain's Ready room, Security office and Jame's quarters. This plan must have been discussed before their arrival or in an area not under surveillance. They tapped the small control Padd and turned off the surveillance devices, so their presence wouldn't be detected. Placing it back in their pocket, they left their hiding place, hopefully they would have their mission completed in two hour and be off the ship before it left. |
