The next hour passed very quickly and after her third cup of coffee (The last one Decaf) she found herself outside the security office. She pressed the door chime and the doors opened. Stepping inside, she expected to see Lieutenant McQueen sat at his desk watching the monitors. Instead the room was empty, but she could hear voices coming from the room next door. Although she didn't know the entire layout of the ship just yet, she was pretty sure that the voices were coming from the Brig. The doors to the Brig opened and Logan stepped into the room. "Lieutenant, shall we go." Before the doors closed, Amy noticed the single Jem'Hadar stood in the centre of the room. Although she couldn't see the whole Brig, it would appear that this Jem'Hadar was outside the cells. They walked down the corridor towards the Stellar Cartography lab and stepped inside. Logan looked around the small room before stepping alongside Amy at the console. He handed the Lieutenant a small iso-linear chip and she placed it in the console. Quickly Amy downloaded the information into the central cartography database. "Are you ready to see the universe ?" Amy asked, looking across at Logan. She pressed a few buttons and the room changed, the universe 'exploding' away from them, leaving the two officers at it's centre. "Computer, expand Gamma Quadrant, Milky way." Amy requested. "Centre on the terminus of the Bajorian wormhole." The room changed and the Gamma quadrant 'zoomed' in and surrounded them. "So what can this system do ?" Logan asked. "What would you like it to do ?" Amy replied. "Let's see all current Dominion territory." Logan requested. "Can we distinguish between military and civilian targets." "Of course." Amy replied, pressing a few buttons. Space changed and a large area was 'coloured' blue and all the planets changed colour. "Red are known military bases, yellow are civilian populations, green are uninhabited and white are uninhabitable." Amy reported. "Now taking the data we've just downloaded, can you overlay all know abandoned Dominion bases." Logan requested. The images in front of them changed once more and a second area, this time red appeared. "The colours are the same as before." Amy stated. "There's a lot of abandoned bases." "Many bases were either destroyed during the early days of the Dominion war and all the bases in the demilitarised zone were abandoned after the war." Logan explained. "Let's concentrate on all bases outside the present Dominion space, can we mask them out." Amy tapped a few buttons on the console and the image changed once more and most of the systems that had been there before disappeared. Logan looked at what was remaining and gave a sigh. There must have been nearly a thousand items, too many to pin down a hiding place for the rogue Jem'Hadar. One item caught his eye and he asked Amy to zoom in. "Isn't that the Bopak system ?" He asked Amy. "According to the records yes." Amy replied. "What do the records show on that system ?" Logan asked. "According to this, the planet was used about a hundred years ago as a forward supply base." Amy replied. "It was abandoned about thirty years ago and the base dismantled, according to the records there's not been a presence on that planet in over twenty five years, why do you ask ?" "The Taurus went to Bopak III only two weeks ago in the hope of finding some answers." Logan stated. "We discovered two Dominion battleships and the rogue Jem'Hadar vessel. One battleship was destroyed and the other was heavily damaged, the Taurus also took quite a beating." "So what makes you think that there's something odd ?" Amy asked. "Well look at the map." Logan commented. "The Bopak system is at least fifty light years away from any other Dominion bases, its isolated. The records show that the planet has not been used by the Dominion in twenty-five years, so why were there two Dominion vessels in the system when we arrived and why did the rogue Jem'Hadar vessel also appear there. I've got a gut feeling that Bopak III has some deep secret to hide, something that could have driven the Dominion off the planet." "I'm also not detecting any habitable planets within twenty light years of the system." Amy stated. "There are about half a dozen possible candidates for class-M planets, but according to the records all are barren and desolate. I'd have expected at least one if not two of these planets to be class-M or at least somewhere close." Logan checked the time and realised that he couldn't spend any more time on this line of investigation. "Lieutenant Lloyd, thank you for your assistance." Logan said. "I need to get back onto the Bridge, but see if you an find any more records on the Bopak system and the surrounding space. See if the Jeorri have anything in their databases, it may not have been incorporated into the Federation databases yet." Amy had heard of the Jeorri although she would have been the first to admit that she knew very little. What she did know was that they were one of a pair of races from the Gamma quadrant, discovered by the USS Virgo. The Jeorri came from the Taboo sector in the Gamma quadrant and had been ruled over by another race called the Kirusan. The Kirusan in turn had been ruled over by yet another race known as the Shahtar, although little was known about them. The Kirusan and the Jeorri eventually joined forced, forming the Kirusan-Jeorri Alliance, which overthrew the Shahtar. The Jeorri were also the race from which the Dominion had created the Jem'Hadar Since the Virgo had made contact and returned to the Alpha quadrant, the Kirusan-Jeorri Alliance had requested admission to the Federation that was still being considered. They had also assisted in the Barien war in 2384 and help the Federation negotiate a non-aggression treaty with the Proktolans. Amy nodded and got on with the job at hand, checking out alien databases was going to involve a lot of false leads and fancy footwork but she was certain she could handle it. It also occurred to her that it might be an idea to run through any scans of that area of space with a fine toothed comb. A really advanced civilisation could hide a base from view if they wanted to so Amy thought about what it would take to hide all that energy and information. "Computer, I want any anomalies in the configuration of space-time reported to me. Also any discrepancies in gravitational fields." Amy cocked her head to one side as she considered her next request. "Give me any data on novae, black holes and pulsars. If you spot anything that isn't a main sequence star I want to know about it." "There I....oh you've gone." Amy turned to find that the Lieutenant had gone. "Busy, busy, busy." At least she had met one person, if somewhat briefly. That had to be a start. It would take the computer at least an hour to prepare a preliminary report so Amy decided to go for a wander around. She decided to try and translate the schematic of the ship that was in her head into a better, more real life concept of where things where in relation to her department. There was only one thing worse than being the new girl and unless she was very unlucky she would never have to run into that situation again ! |
