Checking on the Jem'Hadar |

The Leviathan had been in orbit above Bopak III for just over two hours and now most of the senior crew onboard the Saucer section of the vessel were meeting up in the briefing room. Lieutenant Commander J'ross had been sitting in the chair usually occupied by Captain Taybar, having discovered a young Ensign who was qualified to take control of the helm position on the Bridge. This Ensign was actually only assigned as a shuttle pilot and M'eko remembered vaguely reading in his service record that he had been assigned to the Leviathan just before it left Utopia Planetia under the command of Commander Rashad. She also remembered that he had two reprimands on his service record, the second just before he had been sent to join the Leviathan. With the crew spilt in two however, J'ross needed every available asset and this Ensign had the qualifications to be sat at the helm. There wasn't much for him to do really, just maintain a stable orbit and monitor all the flight systems, so he couldn't do too much harm. One by one, the rest of the senior staff came into the room. Lieutenant Rhee was the first of the senior staff onboard the Saucer section to arrive accompanied by Lieutenant Ashraf Kahfre. Damson took M'eko's usual seat to the right and Ash sat beside her. Ash's sister, Rahel soon followed, taking the seat opposite her brother. The last to arrive was Lieutenant Colonel Phanan, the senior Marine onboard. He took the seat opposite Lieutenant Rhee, which would normally have been for the Security chief. "I think we're all here." M'eko announced. "So what do we know ?. Lieutenant Rhee, what's the situation with the Jem'Hadar ?" Rhee remained seated, but Ash rose from his seat and headed over to the large viewscreen set in the far wall and activated the console beside it. Moment's later, the image of Bopak III and the area where they had detected the tachyon emissions came up on the screen. "From what we've been able to detect, the Jem'Hadar are using low
energy tachyon scans to map the planet's depths. They appear to be concentrating
their scans to an area of fifty square kilometres and they're definitely
using an intense search pattern." Damson stated. "As to what
they are looking for, I can't say. But whatever it is it must lie deep
within the planet's surface because the scans are going almost fifty kilometres
down." Ash tapped a few more keys on the console and the image changed to the Jem'Hadar base on the surface. "At first we thought that the base had been pre-fabricated and dropped into place, but more detailed scans have shown that most of the structure is far older than it would at first seem." Rhee continued. "How old ?" J'ross asked. "Our scans make us believe that the basic structure of the base is nearly a thousand years old." Ash replied. "The current base it would appear is actually within the walls of a much larger and older base, which has been fortified recently. Most of the walls and guard towers are original, with some repair work and the power for the base comes from a geo-thermal reactor, which I must assume was part of the original design." "Do we know who built the old base ?" J'ross enquired. "From the design and layout of the base, plus the use of Geothermal power it's definitely a Dominion base." Rhee reported. "Built over a thousand years ago and abandoned about four hundred years later." "How can you be so sure ?" J'ross asked. "The entire structure has been bombarded with Gamma and Theta radiation." Rhee continued. "By scanning and analysing the radioactive decay, we've estimated that the exposure was some six hundred years ago. The entire area was bombarded with radiation, most likely from orbit, they're several old craters which have been filled in over the centuries." "I think it's about time we got some answers from our resident Jem'Hadar." J'ross announced. "Colonel, could you have Goran'Agar brought to the briefing room." The Marine rose from his seat and left the room, five minutes later he returned with the Jem'Hadar. |
