Second Lieutenant Mike Gibs led his team of Marines into the Marine bay where the five Warthogs were stored. They were only taking two of the small scout vehicles, making their mission much harder. With Gibs was Private First class Garet Jax, who would be leading the second Warthog. Gib's climbing into the co-driver's seat, whilst his driver and weapons officer took their positions. He looked across at the other Warthog and saw the second team doing the same. He then noticed Lieutenant Colonel Phanan arrive in the bay and head over to their position. "Colonel, come to see us off." Gibs remarked. "Something like that." The Commanding Marine replied. Gibs knew that the Colonel would have liked to be leading the assault, but he had bigger things to deal with. He was going to be leading the main assault group, which were going to land using the shuttles onboard the Saucer section, once the Scorpion tanks had dealt with the heavy artillery. The sound of the Warthog's power cells charging up filled the bay with sound, made all the louder by the noise of the drive motors powered up as well. Gibs's driver moved the Warthog forward onto the transporter pad and gave the 'thumbs up'. Colonel Phanan moved away from the Warthogs and tapped his comm badge. "Phanan to Marine Command, Whiskey-Gamma and Delta are ready for transport." Gibs just heard the Colonel announce over him comm link. Moments later, the bay around the Warthogs disappeared as it was transported onto the surface of Bopak III. They re-appeared moments later on the surface of the planet about twenty metres from the ship. Then there was the sound of a second transport, as the other Warthog appeared five metres behind them. "Whisky-Alpha to Marine Command." Gib's announced over his helmet comm system. "Transport successful, we're heading for Tango-Two's last known position." [Confirmed.] The voice on the other end announced. In the distance they could see two large plumes of dust heading away from them, then watched as the first of the shuttles emerged from the rear of the Saucer section and head off in the same direction as the dust. Gibs knew that the dust was coming from the two Scorpion tanks that were being sent to deal with the bases heavy defences. "Let's get moving people." Gibs announced. "What's our ETA ?" "About fifteen minutes." The Marine in the rear reported. "Whisky-Gamma to Whisky-Delta." Gibs called over the comm link. "Follow our lead and stay alert." [Confirmed.] Mike heard Garet reply. |
