Acting First Officers Log

We have spent most of the night examining the caverns beneath the surface of Bopak III. Most of our efforts have been in trying to understand the strange device we have found almost fifteen kilometres down.

From what we know and what we've been able to work at so far, the ring is some kind of 'gateway' between this world and another. Most of the writing has so far eluded us, but we have found some ancient Bajorian text, along with both Protector and some Iconian symbols. Lieutenant Rhee has suggested that the device maybe of Protector construction and could have later been used by the Iconians to create their gateways.

This theory would appear on the surface to be sound, both would appear to allow passage from one place to another. However, as far as we can make out the gateway here on Bopak III is fixed, whereas Iconian gateways can link to any other gateway.

The devices on both planets appear to be drawing vast amounts of raw energy from their cores and so far the link appears to be stable. As for the planet on the other side of the device so far we've not explored too far beyond the device. At the moment it is still night there, but once the sun has risen a survey team will be despatched.

Hopefully Lieutenant Lloyd can establish the exact location of the planet on the other side of the device.

The Jem'Hadar leader Goran'Agar appears to be very excited (If a Jem'Hadar can get excited.) by our discovery. From what he has told us, this is what he found over ten years ago and he hopes that should the planet on the other side prove suitable, he wants to take his 'batch brothers' to a new life on the other side.

Whilst I am very sceptical about all of this, his intentions appear to be good. He has not as far as we can tell told us any lies and has not held anything back. Should the planet prove safe, I'm going to authorise the setting up of a base camp on the new planet and start moving both Jem'Hadar and equipment there to help set them up.

We are still awaiting the return of Captain Taybar and the Engineering section of the Leviathan-B, but I don't expect any signals for at least another day or so.

Lieutenant Commander J'Ross rested back into the Captain's chair and re-read her official log entry. So many things were happening and isolated from her Captain, she was having to put up a strong command face.

She switched off the console on the Captain's desk and rose from her seat. Heading out of the door and into the corridor, she entered the nearest turbolift and minutes later she was in her own room, where she fell asleep almost immediately.
