Hanger 51 – USS Freedom

It had been two long months of hard work, but at last Freelancer’s work on the station was completed. The device they had recovered from the Vulcan back in June had proved to be exactly what had been expected.

Freelancer had taken the device and installed it within the station’s systems and the testing had proved that the device was working but Freelancer had no way of activating the device. Without it Freelancer could not protect the station and everyone onboard when the time came. They wished that they could prevent what was about to occur over the next few days all together, but they knew that such a task was pointless.

The search for the activation key had proved hard, but the computer onboard Freedom had narrowed the location down to just one possibility. The key was in the hands of Section 31 and getting the device would mean going up against Section 31’s most protected resources. Freelancer knew that to achieve the goal they would need help and that help was currently on it’s way to Starbase 901.

The analysis of the memory core had proved much harder than expected. Over time the individual files had become corrupted and fragmented which coupled with the fact that most of the files were heavily encrypted had made the analysis and decoding of the files harder.

A full analysis of the memory core files was still not complete and Freelancer was becoming concerned that the relevant files were so badly damaged and corrupted that there would not be enough time for them to react.

Freelancer headed off the command deck where they had been sitting and back through the vessel to the Engineering centre. As they walked in, the computer stated to speak.

[Analysis of the memory core is complete.] It announced. [Ninety seven point three percent of the core was recovered and decoded.]

“Is all the relevant data we require intact ?” Freelancer asked.

[Negative.] The computer replied.

“How much do we have ?” Freelancer enquired.

[Most of the recovered relevant data is fragmented.] The computer reported. [Analysis of the recovered data is incomplete, but estimations can be achieved to an accuracy of seventy three point two four seven percent.]

“So what do these estimations state ?” Freelancer asked. “How long do we have ?”

[Based on analysed data the attack will occur within the next seven to fourteen days.] The computer reported. [However, given the current sensor data that estimate can be reduced to the attack occurring within the next seven days.]

“What sensor data ?” Freelancer asked.

[Long range sensors have detected a large Kalid fleet massed along the borders of G’Kar and Mulluran space.] The computer reported.

“What is the status of the Axeline ambassador’s vessel ?” Freelancer enquired.

[The Axeline vessel will arrive at Starbase 901 within the next twelve hours.] The computer stated.

“What about the USS Leviathan ?” Freelancer enquired.

[The USS Leviathan-B has crossed the Ferengi border and will arrive at Starbase 901 in one point five hours.] The computer announced.

“Send an encoded message to the Leviathan, directed to Commander T’Kul Rashad’s personnel quarters.” Freelancer dictated. “Message to read : Prepare yourself.”

[Message has been dispatched.] The computer confirmed.

“Status of Star One ?” Freelancer enquired.

[Star One was last reported in sector Seven Two Nine.] The computer reported. [It’s next scheduled contact will be in twenty six hours in sector Twelve Nine Three.]

“Then we don’t have much time.” Freelancer commented.
