It took a few minutes, but finally Rashad and Freelancer got to Deck six, Section twelve of the enormous space vessel. The lab was spacious and very impressive. Rashad noticed some of the scientific equipment that she had never seen before. Azri gave the lab a quick look, as if reminding herself where everything was once again and then pointed one of the consoles out to Rashad. “Now, if I remember correctly, that should be the bioengineering console. We must hack into the database to find out where the drug is stored. It is somewhere within this lab.” Azri stated. “Understood.” Nodded Rashad and sat down in front of console, while Azri started pacing around the lab and examining all the scientific equipment. It took Rashad a little while, but finally the location of the serum popped up on the screen of the console. “I found it!” Exclaimed Rashad. Azri approached the console and examined it. “Yes, you did, Commander.” “See if you can obtain the access code for the storage locker.” Azri suggested. Quickly, Freelancer moved towards one of the bio-storage cabinets in the wall across from the console. “The code is seventeen, sixty three, twenty nine, forty two, zero.” Rashad confirmed across the room. Rashad left the console and headed for the storage cabinet and reached straight for the serum as Azri opened the lock. “Not so fast, Commander…” Warned Azri as soon as the vial was in Rashad’s hand. “….it’s not that simple.” Moving to a nearby examination table, Azri picked up a hypospray and reached for the Romulan-Bajoran’s neck. “What are you doing ?” Rashad asked, alarmed by her new ally’s sudden move. “Drawing blood.” Azri replied calmly. “What you are holding is only one part of the cure. The other part needs to be synthesized from your DNA, let’s just hope that the virus hasn’t altered your original DNA too much.” Taking the blood sample, Azri proceeded to one of the machines in the lab and injected a small sample of Rashad’s blood into a DNA scanner. “There’s a slight alteration to your DNA, but I was expecting that.” Azri stated. “From what I know of the virus, it uses the hosts own immune system to propagate, all we need to do is separate your green blood cells from your yellow.” Azri moved across the lab to another device and injected the rest of the blood sample into the device. Seconds later, the device activated and two samples of blood emerged, one a pale yellow the other dark green. The yellow blood cells were the equivalent of Human white blood cells, whilst the green corresponded to red blood cells. “Now all we need to do is used your green blood cells with the serum and we should have a complete cure.” Azri announced. Azri passed the vial containing the green blood to Rashad and pointed at a third device. Instructing Rashad to inject the blood sample into the device first, followed by the second vial containing the cure, Rashad pressed a small button and the device started to work. “That should only take about five minutes.” Azri announced. “Let’s have a little look around as we wait.” Five minutes or not, the time seemed to have almost stopped for Rashad, who waited impatiently whilst Azri continued to examine the various cabinets and their contents. Finally, the synthesizer beeped and opened, revealing a vial containing a blue-green solution. “Let’s get a move on, Commander..” Azri stated, picking up the vial from out of the machine and placing it into a hypospray. “….we still have to get to the medical centre so Doctor Kahfre can administer this to you.” “Agreed.” Nodded Rashad in her Vulcanoid manner and they quickly exited the lab and set out for the medical centre. “How long until the we have to leave ?” Rashad asked as they rushed down the green lit corridors. “About twenty minutes.” Azri replied. “Which should be more than enough time for the cure to work and for us to reach the Hellcat.” The two officers reached the medical lab two minutes later and found Rahel and Logan sat waiting at a console. Rahel looked across at Rashad and something in her eyes made Rashad realise that something was wrong. “We’ve got the cure.” Azri announced. “I suggest that we administer it as soon as possible and get away from here.” “There’s something you should know before we start.” Rahel announced. “We’ve managed to access your records Rashad and we’ve discovered a problem…..” |
