Previously…. Whilst Rashad and Azri had headed towards the research labs onboard Star One, Logan and Rahel had headed for the Medical centre. Whilst Rahel had started to marvel at the high-spec equipment, Logan had started to access the medical databases. Suddenly he achieved his goal and beckoned Rahel over to where he was sitting. “Rahel come and take a look at this, I think I’ve found Rashad’s medical file” He announced. Now…. Rahel sat down beside Logan and examined the data on the screen. The data Logan had found was indeed a detailed medical record of Rashad t’Kul. There was something that bothered her; the records were very detailed and most worryingly very current. Rahel pushed Logan aside and started to access the file in more detail. “This is all wrong.” Rahel exclaimed. “ “What ?” Logan asked." This is a complete medical history of Rashad, from the moment she joined Section 31.” Rahel explained. ”So, I’m sure that Section 31 has access to Starfleet medical files and they could have all agents take regular medical checks.” Logan suggested. “No that’s not what I mean.” Rahel replied. “Take a look at this…” The console screen changed to show a set of readings, heart rate, breathing, body temperature, brainwave patterns. At the bottom of the screen as a small readout.
At first Logan couldn’t see what Rahel had seen, but then it suddenly dawned on him, the readout was running in real-time. The stasis lock on the virus that had infected Rashad was counting down and all her vital functions were being monitored. “Rashad must have some sort of implant…” Logan remarked. “Her vital signs are being monitored.” “Which means that when we inject the cure Rashad and Azri are bringing, Section 31 will know.” Rahel remarked. “We have to deactivate and destroy that implant for we can cure Rashad.” “Can you do it ?” Logan asked. “This medical lab is very advanced, so I guess so.” Rahel answered. “But we’d first have to work out where the implant is located, then how we can get it out. See if you can find anything on the implant, when it was activated.” Logan searched Rashad’s file and began to cross-reference the data with other files. Finally he found what he had been looking for and called Rahel over. “I’ve found the implant that was used.” Logan explained. “It looks like the device is implanted in the centre of the brain.” Rahel moved to the console beside Logan and brought up a set of head scans of Rashad’s brain. “How could we have missed this ?” She asked herself out loud. “This sort of device should have come up on her yearly medical check-up, especially with the new micro-cellular scanners.” “From the schematics of the implant, it would appear that it can send out false sensor readings.” Logan stated. “It was designed to be hidden and I have a feeling Rashad knows nothing about it.” “The implant appears to be attached to Rashad’s central brain, it’s amazing.” Rahel exclaimed. “It’s acting as part of her central nervous system, it’s almost a part of her. I have no idea how they managed to implant such a device, let alone how I’m going to get it out.” “They put it in somehow, I’m sure you can…..” Logan said, suddenly pausing. “What is it ?” Rahel asked. “Our problems just got worse.” Logan replied, pointing at the schematic for the implant. Just then Rashad and Azri came into the medical lab. Rahel looked across at Rashad, with sorrow in her eyes. Removing the implant was going to be harder than Rahel ever thought possible. If she got it wrong then Rashad would die. “We’ve got the cure.” Azri announced. “I suggest that we administer it as soon as possible and get away from here.” “There’s something you should know before we start.” Rahel announced. “We’ve managed to access your records Rashad and we’ve discovered a problem…..” |
