Azri and Logan headed out of the medical lab and headed off towards the computer core. Rashad and Rahel in the meantime remained in the Medical lab, preparing to return to the Hellcat. “We should get going.” Rashad suggested, supporting herself against the bio-bed. “We don’t have much time.” “You need to sit down for a minute before we head back.” Rahel replied. “The cure is still at work destroying what’s left of the virus you were infected with. You’ll be a little weak for a while. And I have one last thing to do before we leave.” Rahel headed across the room and picked up an extraction syringe, placing it on her upper arm and extracting a sample of her own blood. “What are you doing ?” Rashad enquired. “We don’t have time…….” “I may not get another chance to do this …” Rahel stated, removing the vial of her own blood and placing it in one of the devices at the back of the medical lab and activating the device. <DNA analysis in progress.> The computer announced. “Download all data to my medical tricorder.” Rahel requested, placing the tricorder on the desk beside the DNA sequencer. <Analysis complete.> The computer announced. <Data transfer in progress……complete.> Rahel picked up the tricorder and supporting Rashad by the shoulder, the two Starfleet officers headed back to the Hellcat. With Rashad taking the tactical station, Rahel took the pilot’s seat and hoped that she remembered all her Starfleet helm training. Logan and Azri arrived a few minutes later and immediately ordered Rahel to get them out of the hanger. The Hellcat sped out of the hanger and back into open space. Logan and Azri arrived on the command deck to see the huge Section 31 vessel turning into a Borg vessel. “Target all weapons on the warp core.” Logan ordered. “Let’s hit them with everything we’ve got." Phaser cannons and micro-torpedoes rained down on the evolving vessel, causing damage. By now Logan had taken the helm position from Rahel. Rahel sat at the Operations console and checked on the status of the Hellcat. “We’re doing a lot of damage, but there’s no-way we can destroy the vessel.” Rashad announced from the Tactical console. “If we can’t destroy the vessel from the outside, maybe we should try a different approach.” Logan stated. “Cease firing, we’re going back in.” Logan turned the vessel around and headed straight back to the hanger deck. “ Logan….Are you crazy.” Rahel almost screamed. “We’ll all be killed.” “Not if we time it right.” Logan replied. “Hang on. Rashad open fire as soon as we’re inside.” The Hellcat shot through the shields of Star One and started firing at the hanger bay walls. Logan managed to turn the vessel around in the hanger deck before heading out once more, weapons still firing. With one final turn, he headed back into the hanger, firing the last two torpedoes onboard at the front hanger wall. The wall exploded, revealing space outside and the Hellcat flew through and out, as the wreckage of Star One started to explode and separate, finishing in a massive explosion as the warp core itself exploded. “Setting a course back to the Leviathan.” Logan stated. “Maximum slipstream.” An hour later, Logan, Rashad, Rahel and Azri were all in the mess eating a well-earned meal. Rashad had been given a clean bill of health by Rahel, all signs of the virus she had been infected with were gone. However, Rashad would never be the same, as Rahel explained that the virus had altered her DNA in favour of her dominant Romulan side. Rashad was now fifty-eight percent Romulan and only forty-two percent Bajorian. Rahel explained that Rashad would feel the effects of the change in her DNA at some point, as her body re-adjusted. They were now looking at the data Azri had downloaded. Most of it was heavily encrypted and Rashad had only managed to decipher a small chuck. However, that small chuck of data held a name, a name all four knew well. Adam Drakara. From the data it would appear that Drakara had designed the devices, combining both Federation and Borg technologies. The original purpose was to ‘create’ true sleeper agents, ordinary people who would be implanted and controlled by Section 31. However, Section 31 had seen well past this and for the past twenty years had been implanting all of their agents. Now Rashad had a list of every individual with an implant and a detailed schematic of the device used to insert the implants. Rahel was amazed at the complex simplicity of the method used. The device was actually sent out of phase, the subjects body manoeuvred into place, before the device was brought back into phase, where it could then be connected to the subjects brain. Reading Drakara’s name however had sent Rahel into a depressive mood. She knew that Drakara was responsible for her ‘development’ but not exactly how. Rahel hoped that the records recovered would shed some answers, that and the medical tricorder she carried. Leaving the table, Rahel headed back to the command deck, where she sat in the helm position, watching the quantum slipstream pass by out of the front window. “It will be OK.” Logan’s said in a soft voice. “We’ll find some answers.” “I know.” Rahel replied, turning to kiss the man she loved. “But I already have some answers of my own.” Rahel reached for the medical tricorder and placed it in Logan’s hands. She knew full well that Logan was against Rahel seeking out the answers to her past, but deep down she wanted to know, needed to know the truth. She also needed to find her twin sister, the child’s face she saw every time the nightmares of her past came back to haunt her. “All I need to know is in here.” Rahel stated. “I just need the courage to see for myself and your support.” “Rahel, if this is what you want, then I will support you all the way.” Logan replied. “I just hope you’re strong enough to survive what you may find.” |
