Truman was born on Earth in the heart of Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago, he lived with his Aunt Gloria and Uncle Walt after the death of his parents in a hover tram accident when he was twelve. Not making many friends as a child, Truman did show an interest in discovering how mechanical equipment worked and how it was built. Under his uncle's instruction, Truman learnt how to make and assemble different pieces of equipment such as replicators and small anti-gravity units. Over the course of a few weeks, he was able to build a small sublight shuttle. At the age of eighteen, Truman wanted to expand his knowledge of mechanics and electronics. After much discussion with his aunt and uncle, he joined Starfleet. There he met Robbie Gleason, someone who would later join Jack in the Federation Marines. The two attended the Academy together, Truman taking Engineering classes, whilst Gleason went off to learn medicine. The two became room-mates during their second year and enjoyed going to the Academy lounge and playing pool. After their graduation, the two friends were separated, for what they thought would be forever. Truman was assigned to the USS Missouri, a Nebula class starship which was assigned to explore deep space. Gleason was to have been assigned to the USS Voyager, an Intrepid class starship. However, his transfer didn't come through in time and Gleason was lucky to escape the 'tragedy' of what happened to Voyager. He was instead assigned to the USS Venture, a Galaxy class starship assigned to patrol the inner Alpha Quadrant. As time passed on the Missouri, Truman became an accomplished engineer inside his team. After six months on the Missouri, Truman would be transferred to Starfleet R and D at the advisory of his CO. Truman participated in a few projects, such as the introduction of the pulse emitter phaser rifles and enhanced pulse-flux inhibitors. After serving for six months at Starfleet R and D, he was transferred again aboard the newly commissioned USS Leviathan as an engineer, It was hoped that his time with R & D would be of value to the vessel and it's new Quantum Slipstream drive. Now aboard the Leviathan, Truman was re-united with his friend Gleason again. When Captain Jon Phanan was rescued from the USS Utopia and started to seek out possible Marine recruits, both Truman and Gleason volunteered. Robbie Gleason was killed during a collision between the USS Leviathan-A and another vessel whilst attempting to pass through an inter-dimensional wormhole. Almost a third of the Marines serving aboard the Leviathan-A were killed, a fact that Jack has found hard to accept. He returned to Earth along with Major Phanan and assisted in the selection and recruitment of a new batch of Marines to serve aboard the repaired Leviathan-A. As a reward for his help with the training of the raw recruits, Major Phanan promoted Jack to the position of Alpha platoon leader, a position that he has shown great potential. As well as being platoon leader, Jack also serves as the Marine squad technician, maintaining all the Marine equipment aboard the Leviathan-A, including the Mustang class runabout the USS Devastator II. During the Leviathan-A's search for the mirror vessel, Jack as instrumental in the capture and containment of an advanced hologram from the other universe, which allowed Captain Taybar and the crew of the Leviathan-A to discover the location of the ISS Leviathan and bring to an end the Terran Empire's intention to invade our own universe. When the USS Leviathan-A was destroyed during the final battle between the Starfleet and Terran Empire mirror vessel, Major Phanan and his Marines were transferred to the USS Fort Worth. When the Major returned to the newly commissioned USS Leviathan-B, he and 2nd Lieutenant Mike Gibs followed him.

Jack has a natural ability to work with mechanical devices and serves as the Marines squad technician when not working as platoon leader. He has recently shown signs of severe remorse at the loss of so many lives after the USS Leviathan-A's return to the Alpha quadrant, something that he has been seeking counselling for. This problem has not however effected his ability to serve as a Federation Marine and Major Phanan is happy to keep Jack as Alpha platoon leader.
