"A Close Move"

Author: Commander K'Tag of Mogh
Earthdate: February 03, 2386
Location: Starbase 901 Conference Room

"Computer, time!" K'Tag barked out, as he stepped from his quarters in his usual rush state.

<1100 hours, 55 minutes and 32 seconds,> the computer responded in its usual monotone voice.

K'Tag was usually in much of a hurry these days, between his two posts, his new fiancé, and a baby on the way. These were the times where everything needed to click, and unfortunately nothing was clicking. As K'Tag reached the conference room, he took a single deep breath, and entered the room.

"Good afternoon, Commander." Commodore Hunter sat at one side of the table looking more serious than usual. K'Tag hadn't taken the time to really get to know his new commanding officer, but could recognize a sense of distress in his voice.

"Right on time, as usual," replied a more friendly voice, that of Captain Mallory sitting on the other side of the table. She smiled slightly before glancing down at her PADD she had in her hands before her.

"Commander, with the recent happenings in the system, I am making a formal request for you to move down to the planet. You will be much more effective in the case of an emergency from the planet surface." Hunter's voice came across very clear and to the point.

"You will still be fulfilling your duties here on the station, however you will be living on the planet surface." Mallory's voice had a sense of reassurance in it.

"Where will Claire end up?" K'Tag had a natural concern for his fiancé.

"Claire will stay here with me on the station. She is needed here in the case of an emergency. Don't worry, K'Tag. I will take care of her, and her unborn child. After all, you rescued Zac for me, that is the least I can do," Mallory again reassured K'Tag.

"Very well. I will bring you up to date once you have unpacked your belongings on the planet surface. I have arranged for you to stay in the Starfleet sector, across the street from the command center. Actually, you and I will be neighbors. Perhaps it will give us the opportunity to get to know each other better." Hunter's voice eased out of a serious tone into a more relaxed tone.

"Very well, I will begin packing immediately." K'Tag stood as he finished speaking.

"Actually, Commander, you will start packing as soon as your duty shift is over. You're on in twenty minutes," Mallory's voice rang in an almost sarcastic tone.

"Yes, Captain..." K'Tag replied.

"Are you sure you can handle both posts, Commander?" Hunter already knew the answer, but had to ask.

"Yes, I am confident in my ability to get the job done, sir!" K'Tag again replied. Both Commanding officers nodded at each other, and K'Tag spun, around and exited the conference room, feeling both needed, and full of anxiety.
