"Leave No Stone Unturned"

Author: Marine Captain Amara Denorios
Earthdate: February 10, 2386
Location: Shuttle Bay, Marine Base

Ten days later, Amara Denorios was still haunted by that mysterious shuttle incident. While Lieutenant Stone and his SAR team were reviewing logs in detail, Amara had decided to pursue her own leads on this one as well. Serenity's marine base was isolated precisely for the purpose that is held great historical significance and someone in Command wanted it reactivated.

Since her arrival on Serenity over a month ago, Captain Denorios had been busy getting an assessment completed on that very topic. In addition to her regular duties it was proving to be a job for more than one person. Especially when resources had to be diverted for other crisis situations.

The Marines had been at high alert since that obscure shuttle incident on the first. It didn't make the current situation any easier but Amara took any threat seriously that Starfleet saw fit to act on. For her troops it meant more drills, increased patrols and overall extra vigilance. If this turned out to be a hoax then they would have expended a lot of energy for nothing, even though these types of exercises were good training.

Amara was en-route to Serenity's Starfleet sector. On her schedule for the day was a lot of meetings with various other departments. However she was still keeping a very close tab on activity near the marine base via comm frequencies. More often than not duties took her away from the base so she wasn't able oversee everything first hand. During an alert mode that became even more critical. Another sign of the marines heightened state was the fact that Captain Denorios had reverted to field battle dress.

If the situation suddenly changed it was far easier to respond quickly. For now Amara hoped they were just being overly cautious but she had a sinking feeling this might turn into something more. Reports had been crossing her desk like they were going out of style. None of them made the marine Captain feel any more at ease over the situation.

She never liked waiting, yet that's exactly what the situation had become. They would keep their eyes and ears open but it became a well calculated risk to see which side would actually make the first move if anyone did.
