Jayme stood in the barracks that the 28th MEF Medical Response Unit had occupied for the two months. She'd just had the last fight she was going to have with CMO Anna Alcon. The room was clean and all of the lockers open and empty and her crew lined up with all gear. She went into her office a last time and secured the comp and transferred all of her files to her SB901 account. She discovered that her gear was missing and smiled.
"Okay everyone, saddle up and transfer to SB901. You have your orders and I will be along shortly after I debrief at the Starfleet facilities on Serenity. Dismissed." She watched her 28 men and women head out to the three Hawkes that would take them to the Marine barracks on SB901.
Jayme walked down and through the ship and finally entered the transporter room and nodded to the ensign on duty. "Jayme Alcon, Major. To transfer to the Marine HQ on Serenity."
"One to beam down." The Ensign consulted a directory as Jayme took her position on the pad and looked around and made a quick check of her uniform and heard the ensign say, "Coordinates entered. Semper Fi, Major." Jayme smiled and gave him a thumbs up as she dissipated and made the trip to the planet in the space of three breaths.
Jayme stood outside the main building for the Marine detachment on Serenity. She entered and found Dr. Nathan Fletcher standing on the steps waiting. He ran down the steps and the couple embraced and stood locked in the embrace until a rain shower broke over them and they laughed and ran up the steps hand in hand.
"Oh, Nate," Jayme said. "I'm so glad to see you." She wrapped her arms around him and he mumbled into her hair, "Same goes."
A conference room door opened and a private asked, "Major Alcon?"
"Yes," she said brushing tears from her face. Jayme stepped towards the private and the conference room. "You'll wait?" She saw him nod and she followed the private and stood in front of the committee which included Ambassador Spock. For the next two hours Jayme clarified and elaborated on her reports that the group were reviewing. Finally, Mr. Spock said, "Congratulations Major. Thank you for your time and for doing your duty in this conflict. You're dismissed."
Jayme left the chambers and found Dr. Fletcher sitting on a couch in the lobby reading from his PADD. "Let's go home," Jayme said when he turned and saw her walking up.
He stood and shook his head and said, "We're spending the weekend here -- I have booked a suite in the city... then we'll shuttle up to SB901." He took Jayme by the hand and found a Marine Corporal who gave them a ride to the Sheridan Luxury Hotel where he led Jayme by the hand, briefly stopping to check for messages at the desk before catching a lift to the 34th floor and down the hall into a beautifully decked-out suite. Jayme was numb mentally and just plain physically tired from the two months. The McCoy had been boarded twice and had repelled boarders both times. She'd pulled shifts tending to critically wounded, had helped in the camps and set up emergency medical facilities on several war damaged planets, and had been wounded in the line of duty herself several times... you've only heard the main story -- there were others that weren't disclosed at this time for security reasons.
Nathan moved in and gently tilted up her face and kissed her long and deep before walking her into to the deluxe bathroom and started removing bits of her clothing before she smiled and heard the water running and started trying to remove his clothing but he took her hands and said, "No. Right now this is just about you," and he continued as she dropped her hands to her side. He helped her into the foaming water of the bath and when she was settled he poured a sweet champagne into two flutes which he handed her and watched from the side of the tub as she sipped and relaxed. Finally Nathan finished removing his dress uniform and climbed into the tub with his wife...
"I love you, Nathan," Jayme said and took another sip. He was all dark hair, eyes, and warm easy smile that hinted to charm but also a little mischief.
