After unloading the supplies in the runabout, Donovan got directions to the Commodore's office, figuring that he would go report in to the station CO before reporting to Lt. Stone. "At least this is more pleasant surroundings than my last posting," Donovan thought, remembering his tour at Deep Space Five. Slowing slightly to take in the sights of the Serenity City. After several minutes, Donovan arrived at the administration building in the Starfleet quarter. Pausing in the lobby to get his bearing, Donovan headed to Hunter's office. Entering the Commodore's office, Donovan approached the yeoman sitting at the desk, with a name plate bearing the name of Yeoman Piper. Coming to a stop in front of the desk, the female yeoman looked up at him. "Can I help you?"
"Yes, ma'am." Donovan handed over a PADD with his biographical file and his deployment orders. "Chief Petty Officer Nicholas Donovan reporting as ordered, bearing dispatches for the Commodore." Piper took the offered PADD and places it on her desk. "Take a seat, Chief. The Commodore will be with you."
"Ma'am." Nodding his head, Donovan heads to the seat that Piper indicated.
Piper buzzed the Commodore. "Commodore, there's a Chief Petty Officer Donovan here to see you."
Hunter looked up from his desk and said, "Thank you, Jamie. Show him in."
Piper looked over where Donovan was seated. "The Commodore will see you now." Donovan stood up and walked to the Commodore's office. After entering the room, Donovan assumed an attention stance in front of his desk. "Sir! Chief Petty Officer Nicholas Donovan reporting as ordered."
Hunter indicated the chair across the desk from his. "At ease, Chief. We don't stand on too much formality here on the frontier. Have a seat." After Donovan took the proffered seat, Hunter sat down as well. "How was your journey here?"
"Thank you, sir." Donovan sat down in the offered seat. "Comfortable, but long, sir. At least I had some company for the trip."
Hunter chuckled, remembering his own voyage. "Those three days through the Briar Patch seem to stretch into eternity, don't they? Well, at least you had someone to share the misery with." The pleasantries thus dispensed with, Hunter turned a little more serious. "Where is your posting here, Chief?"
"Sir, I have orders from Starfleet for a posting to the SAR unit under Lieutenant Stone."
Hunter grunted his recognition of the name. "A fine officer," he commented. And a very busy rescue unit. You'll have your work cut out for you. I hope you're up to it!"
"Yes, sir. I have many tours of duty with SAR and recovery units. I'm definitely looking forward to this posting."
"Yes, well, I'm sure that's all in here, in excruciating detail," said Hunter, pointing with a measure of distaste to Chief Donovan's dossier on the desk before him, as yet unglanced at. Hunter preferred to get to know is crew in person, not from cold data files, and he liked what he saw of this young man so far. "I'll read your files later," he said. "Meanwhile--" he stood, and Donovan did likewise, "--welcome to Serenity!" He shook Donovan's hand warmly.
Donovan took the Commodore's hand, "Thank you, sir."
"Yeoman Piper out in the office can direct you to your unit if you need help finding your way around at first."
"Yes sir, I'm sure that I'll will need her assistance with that. Thank you for your time, sir."
Hunter smiled. "My pleasure. Dismissed."
Donovan snapped back to an attention stance. "Sir!" Spinning around, he walked out of the office.
