"SAR Briefing"

Author: Lt Stone, CPO Donovan
Earthdate: April 17, 2386
Location: Serenity - SAR HQ

"Good day, sir. I'm assuming that I'm considered senior staff due to being top kick." Standing behind a chair, Nico waited for the Lieutenant's response before sitting down.

"Yes, Chief," Stone replied. "I think this will be to your interest."

Rich entered the room shortly after and took a seat at the table as Stone sat down.

"Right," Stone began. "As I'm sure you're aware the workload for the team has increased dramatically over the last few weeks, due to an influx of people into Serenity. As a result Starfleet is sending us a couple more people and an extra ship."

"Great," Rich murmured. "What half finished wreck are they sending us?"

Stone smiled at the junior officer's sarcasm, the runabout they had received was fitted primarily with standard equipment and Watson and Hedley along with a couple of Starfleet Engineers had spent the last few days hard at work upgrading the systems, which should have been fitted as standard to a SAR Runabout.

"We're getting a Type 11 Shuttle, it should be fitted with the relevant systems, but I want you two to have a look at the specs before it arrives so if we need anything we can have it ordered," Stone said. "As for the personnel, we're getting three people; an Ensign Thomasen, who is a trauma/triage specialist; an Ensign James Marr, Engineering Officer; and Petty Officer David Johansson, a SAR Specialist."

Nico looked up at the mention of Thomasen's name. "Sir, I came into Serenity with an Ensign Carolyn Thomasen. As far as I recall, she didn't have a duty assignment yet, but she stated that she was a trauma specialist. Is that the same person?"

Stone scanned the personnel file, including the recent update from Commodore Hunter. "It certainly is, Chief. I take it you know her entire personal history considering the journey."

Chuckles. "Well, sir, I wouldn't say that I know her entire personal history, but we got to know each other fairly well. She's sounds like she got her act together and is squared away."

Nico paused to collect his thoughts and continued. "As for ordering equipment, sir, I would like to see about getting a Corps SAR hardsuit. It may not be something that is needed for every mission, but it's worth its weight, especially if we're going into a potential hot zone or if we have to open up a craft. If you're not familiar with it, I can dig up the specs for it, sir."

"I've heard about them, see what you can acquire from the Corps base here, I've tried obtaining things from the Corps supply unit's before and they're like vaults, you'll probably have better luck," Stone replied.

Nico nodded in response to Stone's statement. "I agree, sir. Once in the Corps, always in the Corps. It should definitely give me an in with the base quartermaster, since I can speak the language. If you have a list of equipment that we're needing, I'll see what I can do."

Stone looked towards Watson. "Rich?"

"I have a few items I wouldn't mind having a look at, including what the Corps has in their SAR kits, if you could possibly scrounge one from somewhere," Rich replied with a grin.
