"Breen There, Done That"

Author: Lt.J.g. Tyvek and (Ret) Cpt Saitek
Earthdate: May 10, 2386
Location: Serenity

The runabout had just entered warp when Corporal Smith discovered the radio traffic back on Serenity.

"Sir something's happening back on the Serenity. Something terrible," replied Smith.

"What is it?" asked Tyvek.

"They've shot down the President's ship. StarFleet One is missing."

They paused as the runabout sped through the stars.

The Briar Patch...

Saitek and his Klingon friend had managed to catch a few hours of sleep down below in the freighter's cargo hold. Due to the climate change icicles had begun to form above. The Ferengi Captain also had survived and was waking up.

"Wake up and smell the latinum," the Ferengi said to Saitek.

"I am awake. Never turn your back on a Breen, Ferengi," replied Saitek.

"What do you know about the Breen, Vulcan?"

"They are cold blooded beings, quite literally. They do not have conventional blood. The suits enable them to function in an oxygen environment. That may be our weapon," replied the Vulcan.

"How? We are slaves to them. Lucky to be alive even. How can we, a band of pirates, defeat three ships full of Breen?" asked the Ferengi.

"We will have to turn up the heat," Saitek added.

The Runabout...

Fifty thousand kilometers away the mouth of the Briar Patch opened. Also the distance from where the runabout had dropped out of warp.

"Sir, we are detecting the warp signature of at least three warships, possibly Breen. Recommend we return to the Colony and return with backup," Gunney stated.

"Negative, proceed, Corporal Smith. Gunney, we are my father's only hope for rescue. Besides, the Breen may be behind whatever has happened back on Serenity," replied Tyvek.
