"A Little Deception"

Author: Jack Lashmore
Earthdate: May 12, 2386 - 1918 hrs
Location: Serenity City

The old stereotypes never died. The handles, the seat, the hum of the engine and sleek feel all made Jack fall in love with the hover-bike he had temporarily 'borrowed' from Lake Town.

Piloting above the capital's rooftops Jack banked the bike and leaned to the left, causing the contraption to descend on its side between the Trade Center and Foreign Affairs skyscrapers. As the pathways in between the buildings grew too close for comfort at such speed Jack leaned to the right then centered himself as he increased acceleration and felt the chilly wind impact him fully as he cut through against the wind. Damn it, he thought, be frozen stiff by the time I get anywhere.

Finally, after narrowly dodging civilian hovercraft for several streets Paladin Hospital was up ahead. Parking near the main entrance Jack dismounted the bike and walked in. Hoping his old papers were still in-date as they normally lasted several years Jack approached the front desk and placed a PADD in front of the receptionist, an obese yet young lady.

"I am lieutenant Commander Jack Lashmore," he began, lying about his old rank still being in service. "Those papers verify who I am, Starfleet Security. I've been sent by Commodore Hunter to verify the safety of your esteemed wounded."

The woman palmed the PADD and quickly read through the details, obviously they were still in-date, unless she further wished to verify Jack's story. "But sir, we have local security."

"Local security... The President is not local and prefers his own attend to him." Jack noticed the woman eye his casual attire questionably. "Ever since when does a half decent body guard wear a dead give-away of their position, miss?"

"I'll have to verify it with my supervisor."

Jack nodded. "Go do that then," he said dismissively as she stood and left her computer unattended and open for manipulation. Slipping around the desk as the woman searched for her supervisor Jack brought up the listings of rooms and duty assignments. Obviously no word of the President's room would be recorded, but he was not who Jack was worried about. Dee Hunter, stationed in room 601. Perfect.
