Tyvek and Corporal Smith materialized down on the planet and immediately felt the sweltering tropical heat. As a Vulcan he was not un-accustomed to heat, but not a moist heat. It was also dark, except for the glowing light many miles away.
"Sir, the tricorder is reading numerous life forms several kilometers ahead. A concentration of them are also heading this way from behind us," reported Smith.
"We have to find some shelter until the morning. Are there any caves nearby?" asked Tyvek.
"There is a small abode of sorts on the other side of that ridge sir," pointed Smith.
The two walked over to the abode and discovered that it had not been lived in for a while. It would however, give them a good duck blind view of the life-forms that were about to pass by there.
"Sir, I took the liberty of bring along the cloaking emitters. We can cloak this place and not be discovered by the locals," commented Smith.
"Gunney would say that you are 'bucking for a promotion', Corporal. Excellent thinking, make it so."
Tyvek and Smith watched from the cloaked blind as the beings approached. To their surprise the beings were akin to the Earth creatures called toads. More so amphibians as they were much more bipedal.
"I have activated the universal translator. We should be able to discern their linguistics soon," Tyvek commented.
"Sir, they're huge. Back home we used to cook those things," Smith replied.
"Please refrain from doing so until after we have made First Contact, Corporal," Tyvek replied.
The duo ventured out of the protective cabin and down the road towards the settlement. If they were to make first contact it were better that they do this in the daylight.
"Tyvek to Gunney."
[Yes, Lieutenant.]
"Gunney, stay tuned to the transporter, we may need to be pulled out without warning."
[I'll save you, sir.]
