Kiok felt good after having dropped of the Ambassador on Elrion in the Cellione Republic. No more finding rooms for Sitar, having picked more than ten different quarters and shuffling crew around for his purpose, but now the Romulan was gone.
They were cruising just outside the border of the Federation closest to Serenity Colony.
"Sir, there is something on my scans," Lieutenant Ron Hun said.
"What?" The Lieutenant took Kiok off his peaceful musings. He sat up and looked out the viewscreen expecting to find something there.
"It appears to be a cloaked ship, sir," he stated.
"Evasive maneuvers!" yelled Commander John Daza from across the room.
"Romulan Bird of Prey decloaking, dead ahead," Ensign Mike said from the helm. "They are firing disruptors."
"Shields." Kiok jumped out of his chair and ran toward the weapons officer. "Get those shields..." The disruptors hit the ship and rocked it.
"Shields are up, sir," Lieutenant Commander T'pel responded.
"Return fire," John commanded.
"Heading 31 mark 21," Kiok said as he regained his composure and went to sit in his chair in the middle of the bridge.
"Returning fire," the weapons officer said. "Firing torpedoes." The ship buckled from the explosion from a few photon torpedoes on the starboard side but held firm.
"Prepare the plasma weapon," Kiok ordered.
"Sir, is that prudent?" John asked the captain.
"Of course." Kiok looked hard into the human's eyes.
"As you wish, sir." John turned to the weapons officer. "Prepare plasma weapon."
"Yes sir, arming now," T'pel said in that emotionless Vulcan voice. "One minute until it's ready to fire."
"Good. The Romulans will never know what hit them," Kiok said and John thought for a second that the Vulcan smiled.
"Sir, the Romulans are detecting our power build up." Ensign Mike faced toward the captain. "They are withdrawing."
"I see," Kiok turned to the weapons officer and signaled for them to fire when the weapon was ready. "Pursue them, match their speed."
"Right away." Ensign Mike did as ordered.
"We will overtake them in five minutes." John was looking at the science station's scanners.
"Firing plasma, sir," T'pel said as she did so.
Looking out the viewscreen he saw a massive burst of energy following the Romulan ship.
"Impressive." Kiok stood up and looked at the red ball of fire, "Even better than expected." He looked over at the Commander. "Bird of Prey's speed?"
"Warp 6.3 and climbing," John replied.
"Plasma ball speed?"
"Warp 9.3 sir, a few seconds before impact."
There was a brilliant flash a few seconds later when the ball of fire collided behind the enemy ship. A few seconds longer and the mist dissipated.
"Enemy ship heavily damaged," John said from the science station. "They are dropping out of warp."
Ensign Mike also took the ship of warp.
"Get us closer to the enemy ship." Kiok sat back down and looked at the green ship in the viewer, one of its wings was gone. "Romulans still design their ships with weak rear shields."
"Sir, there are multiple signals on my scanner." Ron looked up from his console.
"Get us out of here at maximum warp, and cloak us," Kiok said.
Ensign Mike turned the ship around and the SS Colombia was cloaked just before three Romulan warships arrived at the scene.
"Sir, message coming in from the Romulans," the communications officer said.
"Put it through." Kiok looked at the viewscreen and a Romulan female officer appeared on screen.
"It appears that we have underestimated you, Captain," she smiled, "but it won't happen again."
"I'm sure it won't." Kiok looked at her. "But you didn't call just to tell me that did you?"
"No I didn't." She was angry. "You totaled one of my ships." She sat in her own chair. "That's not the reason either." She pointed at him. "Tell your government that there will be no peace, we will destroy them, and if their Federation friends get involved we will destroy them too. We have never finished our business with the Federation." She cut off communications and was gone.
"The Romulans are leaving, sir." Ensign Mike said.
"Take us into Federation space and bring us to a full stop." Getting out of his chair he signaled for John to follow him into his briefing room. "Commander T'pel, you have the bridge."
She nodded as the commanding officers went into the briefing room.
Kiok walked over to the other side of the small table and sat down, he motioned for John to do the same. John sat down on the other side of the table.
"I have one question, John." Kiok turned on the computer console.
"Fire away, sir." John smiled and Kiok raised an eyebrow. "It means to give me the question, sir." John looked out the window.
"How do you suppose the Romulans knew where to find us?"
"Simple, sir." He turned back to the Captain.
"A spy," they both replied.
"And I know just who that is." Kiok looked at a personnel file on his small computer screen. "Computer, were is Centurion Riol?"
"He is in gymnasium three."
They both looked at each other.
"Well why would he be in the gym in the middle of a battle?" Kiok stood up as if heading for the gym but John held up a hand.
"Let me do the dirty work, sir." John walked out of the briefing room and headed for the gym after Kiok's nod.
