"What To Do, What To Do"

Author: Chief Petty Officer Donovan
Earthdate: August 16, 2386
Location: Serenity - SAR Station

Nico surveyed his little slice of paradise, standing up from his desk. The SAR shuttlecraft were running in great order and the crew had become a well honed machine. After the call-out for Starfleet One, things had definitely quieted down and become, well, routine. Nico had made some overtures to the Marine Rapid Responders, mostly being pleasant and personable, but in general getting to know the updated operations and how much things had changed since his time in the Corps.

But, of course, nothing ever stayed the same. As a result of their actions with rescuing Starfleet One, the Fleet brass had seemingly noticed the Serenity crew and taken a closer look at the personnel here. While no medals had come down the pike, Lt Stone and his second had been offered and accepted a re-assignment to another SAR posting elsewhere in Federation territory. Shortly after getting the offer, Stone had shown Nico the news and announced his intention to take the posting.

While the officers had moved on, the rest of the unit, all enlisted Fleet crew, had either opted to stay or hadn't been offered any other positions. Of course, this left the unit without officers and with no prospects on the horizon, Nico wasn't sure what the chances were for this unit. Nico sat back down and his desk, rubbing his face.

As if on cue, the display mounted on Nico's desk sounded with an incoming message. Looking up, Nico toggled the display and started reading the message. After the first read, Nico reread the message several times to make sure that he was reading the message right. The gist of the message was that Starfleet had reviewed the situation at Serenity and had decided that the SAR unit was going to be folded in with the newly created Marine Corps Rapid Responder unit. In the interests of unified command, the Fleet personnel would answer to the Marine Corp officer in charge, but Nico would have the additional title of Fleet - Corp liaison within the new unit.

Nico sat back and wondered what drove this new development forward, but really he didn't much care. In a way, Nico was back to working with the Corps, even though he was still, in his mind, a Fleet puke. Of course, the Fleeties that he worked with had proven themselves time and again, but Nico still shared the ingrained, automatic disdain of Fleet personnel, drilled into him by years of Corps service.

Leaning forward, he called the remaining SAR personnel up to the office to advise them of the news.
