Nico and the rest of the SAR crew had spent the day and the night before packing up the SAR equipment, making everything shipshape for the transfer to the Marine Rapid Responder unit. In some down time, Nico had called up some information and studied the organization chart for the unit, along with the equipment rosters that were available. Nico didn't say anything to the other SAR troops, but he had a sinking feeling that most of them were going to become secondary. The Rapid Response unit was certainly larger than the SAR unit, approximately 28 troops. However, Nico was certain that he could find a way to fit everyone in. Everything that he heard through the rumor mill certainly indicated that the CO was in order and ran a tight ship.
However, they would soon see. The SAR shuttles landed at the Rapid Response base, after requesting the appropriate clearance from Traffic Control. As Nico left the shuttles, he introduced himself to the first noncom and followed the Marine to the CO's office.
Jayme was sitting at her desk with a sigh she initialled yet another requisition, and wondered why no one had ever just made a stamp cha ching cha ching she thought mentally to herself with each one she processed. Half her staff was on leave that they had accrued while on combat duty, 1/4 were asleep and the other 1/4 were standing duty some place on base be it sickbay or field duty. There was a knock on the wall outside her office and she looked up to see a NCO and a fleeter who entered, saluted and went to parade rest. She nodded to the NCO who about faced and left. Jayme saluted and sat back and surveyed the man before her. "Yes?"
Nico handed a PADD with the orders combining the SAR and RR units towards the Major. 'Chief Petty Officer Nicholas Donovan bearing orders. The Starfleet SAR unit based at Serenity station is being folded into the Marine Rapid Response unit. I have my people and equipment with me, ready to be stowed." Nico came back to parade rest, looking at the Major. "The PADD contains a full inventory of SAR equipment and the full roster of personnel."
Jayme smiled, stood and reached across her desk to take the hand of Donovan. "Want to take the tour Chief?" She asked, and when she saw him nod she led the way out of her office and around the compound.
Nico followed her out of her office, "Absolutely, Major. Lead on."
Just outside HQ they met up with Lt. Sidle. "Sir." Sara said.
"I'm going to give CPO Donovan a tour. Please go to the landing field and collect his people and get them settled into barracks, then when they have chosen their rooms, lead them over to the 'readyroom'."
"Aye." They watched as Sara walked toward the landing field.
"HQ--is behind us, The hospital and emergency response facilities are located to our left," Jayme pointed to the North, "barracks are there, and on the farside of the field is the hangers, classrooms, armory, etc..." Jayme and Chief Petty Officer walked toward the hospital where they entered through a lobby area and she pointed out---on our left is bases security, on the right is the EMS units where I am going to have your people stationed. You will be quartered with my marines, and within a quick march. In the bays you will find vehicles for rescue, firefighting, and room for whatever vehicles you may need." They continued through and they entered the Emergency room. They exited and walked toward barracks and inside the tower he spotted a commissary, lounge, messhall, conference room, holo suite, and entertainment room, and gym. They took the lift up and she showed him to a door. This will be yours. Your men are stationed on this floor. Each floor houses a different operational unit for the base. You can re-key the code and move in after we meet up with your team." They walked back across the field and re entered the EMS side of the base hospital and met up with his team.
Nico was certainly impressed, the quality of Marine stations had apparently improved since he was with the SAR/Response teams. Of course, he had either spent most of his time in combat zones or on frontier stations where there was no room for luxuries. The Major and her people certainly appeared to have their act together, which appealed to the Marine deep down inside Nico. Walking back to the EMS area, Nico glanced towards the Major. "I'm assuming that our troops rally in the morning for exercises?" When Major Alcon replied affirmative, Nico smiled. "Good, we'll will be joining you for the morning routine then. I hope that you'll take it easy on us." This drew a small chuckle as the two met up with the SAR unit.
