Built as a forward arming and refueling point (FARP) during the First Mulluran War of 2384, the SFMC Training Facility is situated on a broad plain on the eastern coast of Serenity. The base is complete with administrative and educational buildings, barracks, hangars for small spacecraft repair and storage, ammunition and fuel dumps, parade grounds, and landing tarmacs.
Jayme's team had been on planet for a month and Jayme was the ranking officer of the base at the moment and was sitting in her office with stacks of PADDs, her computer was beeping at her about messages waiting. She took a sip of her coffee. Her table in her quarters was buried under a pile of PADDS -- mainly her studies. Nathan was almost half a continent away at Paladin Hospital. She was slated for a week of leave in which she planned to spend in the city with him at their apartment in the tower.
The previous senior officer, a captain, was with the troops doing field training. She hadn't seen Sara, Marki, or Kama, except at morning PT training sessions. Jayme hadn't been sleeping well and had been having some PTSD.
Kama finally found some time to look up her friend, this morning she saw the bags under her eyes got larger once again. She stepped into the office, unannounced, and watched Jayme, who did not spot her yet. She studied the woman and felt she had to do something for her, after all, if she did not take enough relaxation time, she would not get anywhere else than the hospital sooner or later.
She stepped up in front of Jayme's desk, planning not to accept excuses or any comments that meant no, to what she was planning to do and say. "Good afternoon, Jayme." Kama greeted her cheerfully.
"Kama," Jayme said leaning back in her seat.
"Jayme. Put that stuff down, I have planned us a day out." Kama started right away.
"I would love to take some time off... but, I have a lot of work to do before I leave tonight for the Capital city for a week of leave with Nathan." Jayme said indicating the stack of PADDS.
"That is already taken care of by your replacement Jayme. I have orders to take you on a relaxing day out, because you start to get overworked, the orders were on my desk this morning so it is not a request." She stated and looked Jayme in the eyes. She meant it.
Jayme leaned back in her chair and looked Kama in the eyes and after sighing. "Who issued the Order?"
"Is the base commander high enough in rank to order you around Jayme?" She sniggered.
"Fine." Why don't you give me a lift into the city and drop me off at my quarters there... we can spend the day in the recenter there's a pool and all sorts of fitness equipment including a stylist and massage therapist... 24/7.
"I am not listening to your excuses, you come with me now, the orders specifically said, you take a day off now, or your leave of tomorrow will not be allowed."
"I said, Fine." Jayme got up from the desk, dumped all the disks in her daypack, downed the rest of her coffee and walked towards the door. "Are you coming?"
"Of course, I am supposed to keep an eye on you." She followed Jayme outside. "And fitness is a no, you are supposed to relax, not to work your butt off again!" Kama said calm while she walked to her transport, it would be a surprise for Jayme. "This is how we go to the city." She pointed at two mountainbikes. "I thought you would like the exercise."
"Cool," Jayme said walking around one of the bikes and then climbing on set off following Kama on the 20 K ride to the city. Kama grinned and raced away, she had been practicing on these bikes for a few days to get the hang of it, the area around them was a great place to go with a bike, if you liked a challenge, Kama did and rode off to a backroad that lead into the woods. She heard Jayme following her and smiled. One of the locals had pointed her to this road and it was not easy to ride on. But the surroundings were beautiful, large trees, rock formations, flowers... Jayme rode up next to her when the road got a little wider. "How do you like it thus far?" She asked Jayme with a smile.
"Its great.." Jayme said racing off. Inside the city they made good time and made it to the forty-five story building that Jayme and Nathan had an apartment in.
