Tyvek and Corporal Smith had managed to befriend the two large amphibians and had returned to the hidden camp to prepare for their meeting with the tribal chief. They had learned that the amphibians had never seen humanoids before and their meeting would be the first, or so they thought.
Unknown to them was the arrival of a heavily armed Romulan scouting party, from the orbiting warbird above. With staves and primitive weapons the amphibs attempted to defend their bog but was no match for the sophistication of the Romulan disruptors.
Running to the murky depths of the pond, the amphibs attempted to survive.
Gunney had landed the runabout in the mountain above the bog and was able to witness the attack and immediately contacted Tyvek.
"Sir the Romulans have occupied the Bog. What are your orders?"
[Gunney we are seriously out numbered. We must wait for our opportunity and then make a move to free the hostages. How many officers and men do you count?] asked Tyvek.
"Fourteen."
[They apparently are confident that that will be enough. Our best effort is to some how interfere with their transporters.] replied the Vulcan.
"That I can do. I could fly close enough to the warbird and damage her engines." replied Gunney.
[No that would reveal our presence. Our first move is to take out three of their centurions. The good news is that I may be able to impersonate a Romulan. If that is accomplished I shall try to gain access...] continued the Vulcan.
The First contact just took on a whole new meaning.
