The Vengeance was very small against the back drop of the ion storm. Despite the attempts of the helm, the ship continued to be sucked into the swirls of the waves of radiation.
"Captain, we are detecting a small object at the center of the storm. It appears to be a life pod, but I'm not sure due to the radiation." replied the tactical officer.
"Are there any life signs?" asked Nala.
"Sporadic reading suggest yes." the Deltan replied.
"Distance from object?"
"Twenty thousand kilometers."
"Bridge to the Transporter room. Can you get a fix?" Nala asked.
[No ma'am. Too much radiation.] replied the speaker.
Saitek watched as she tried to find a solution. Without saying a word he exited the bridge and rode the turbo lift down to the shuttle bay. From there he over rode the code to the door and boarded a shuttle. It was illogical to risk the whole ship, but not so illogical to risk himself.
The shuttle passed by the ship and proceeded onto the course of the life pod.
"Saitek to Vengeance. Forgive my timing but we didn't have time to debate the issue. I'll get within towing range and push the pod closer to the Vengeance. Get the tractor beam working." commanded the old commander.
Angered by his act, Nala motioned for the tactical officer to follow the directive. If it worked she'd hang him later.
