Karissa and Will were just returning from dinner with the twins holding their hands. It was already dark out, but not too dark for Will to see Karissa's face. He could sense that something was trouble her. It was in her dark eyes.
"What is it?" he asked gently. "What's bothering you?"
"Grandma and Grandpa," Luc said looking up at his mother.
She gave him a sly smile. "You know, I think these two are just too smart for their own good," she said.
Will smiled back. "Well, perhaps," he replied. "But they picked up your concern... what is it about them? Do you think something's wrong?"
"That's just it. I don't know," she replied. "I sent them that letter over a week ago. I should have heard back something by now. It's just not like them not to respond."
"Perhaps they're just busy. After all, school is about ready to start up again. There are clothes to buy, arrangements to be made. Could be a number of reasons they haven't had a chance to get back to you," he replied, trying to put her mind at ease.
"You're probably right," she replied as she leaned against him.
"Of course, I am," he said with a playful smile.
"Of course," she said, as she kissed his cheek.
Luc and Maya giggled.
Suddenly, as they entered the house, Karissa saw the comm. indicating a message.
"Perhaps you've finally heard from your parents," Will said smiling as he took Luc's hand and watched as Karissa went to check the message.
"Hi Darling," her mother began. "We got your message and are thrilled to know that you're doing so well on Serenity. We had hoped that in time you'd begin to heal. Anyway, I have some exciting news for you as well. By the time you get this, we should be almost to Serenity ourselves. Your father and I decided to come for a visit after all. Joshan can't wait to see his niece and nephew and we can't wait to see them either, for that matter we can't wait to meet Will. It seems he's been taking good care of you." There was a sweet gentleness about the woman's face. "If you would like to meet us, we'll be arriving on Serenity on August 31. Our arrival time is 15:30 hours. We're all looking forward to seeing you again, honey. We love you!" she said before ending the message.
Karissa turned to William, her eyes bright with excitement. "They're coming here! MY parents are really coming here!" she smiled.
William went to her and leaned over, kissing her gently. "I guess it's good we have that spare room," he smiled.
"Definitely!" she replied. "They'll get here later in the day. We could all go out for dinner. I want to invite Shara, and then the day after we could go to the museum and the park. Joshan would like the park as much as the twins!" she replied.
"Take a breath," he laughed. "And don't forget we'll have to work at some point."
She giggled softly. "And I'm sure my parents will want a tour of the facility too." She replied. "So much to do!"
"Just remember to enjoy yourself," he said. "Don't get too worked up, or you won't."
"Oh, I plan to enjoy every moment!" she replied enthusiastically.
"Grandma and Grandpa coming?" Maya asked as she climbed up onto her mom's lap.
"Yes, in a couple of days," Karissa replied. "You'll finally get to meet them."
"Yay!" she clapped her hands together. Luc giggling and clapping as well.
"Want to see Josh!" Luc replied.
"You'll see him too," Will replied, scooping the boy into his arms. "But for now, I think it's time for two little tykes to get a bath."
The kids giggled, her eyes sparkling as she raised her arms to him.
"How about I carry you to the bathroom," Karissa said, making sure Will didn't get overloaded with children.
Immediately Maya turned around and put her arms around her mom's neck and kissed her. "You take me!" she said.
Will and Karissa exchanged a smile and a look that said so much more. Like how good life could be."
