Dan turned in the bed as he awoke and looked into the face of Amanda Scott who was still asleep beside him. They had been lovers for the past month. Although at first seducing Amanda had been his job, the situation had changed and now he just wanted to get her out of the situation she had found herself in.

Dan had been sent to Kritarus to investigate an intelligence report that Section 31 was conducting some kind of experiments in a secret lab on Kritarus. Amanda worked at the lab and had been Dan’s way in. She was a xeno-psychologist with expertise in telepathic behaviour.

He’s gained her trust and her love as the relationship had grown. Dan now knew everything, about the experiments to create genetically modified humans, about how the female lab workers were being used as surrogate mothers and how Amanda had been pulled into this world by her sister Alice who was married to the leading scientist’s brother.

Dan knew that sooner or later Starfleet Intelligence would want him to report his findings, but so far he’d kept the whole truth a secret. He’d sent back reports to keep them happy, but he knew what would happen if he told them the whole truth. If he did, then Amanda would be at risk, along with her son.

“Hello sleepy.” He remarked as Amanda stirred from her sleep and opened her eyes.

“What time is it ?” Amanda asked.

“About seven thirty.” Dan replied.

“I’d better get to the lab.” Amanda remarked, rising from the bed and searching for the clothes she had discarded the previous night.

Stay here for a few more minutes.” Dan asked.

“I can’t.” Amanda protested. “I must get to the lab.”

Amanda dressed and headed out of the door. Dan sat back on the bed once more and wished he’d never volunteered for the assignment. But he knew that his time was short, Starfleet Intel were getting increasingly impatient with his progress.

Dan rose and showered, before dressing and heading out of the door of the room he had rented. As he walked, he knew what he had to do and headed through the city. He had to end it now.

Thought of how he was going to get Amanda back ran through his head, along with what would happen to her ‘son’. She was involved in an illegal operation, but Dan had the feeling that there were people involved who’s loyalties lay within the Federation.

Half an hour later, he was in the commerce quarter of Kitarus’s main city and ducked down a side-alley. Although he couldn’t be sure, we had the feeling that he was being followed. He’d had the feeling for a couple of days, which was another reason for ending the operation soon.

He pulled out a small sub-space transmitter and entered an encrypted message, sending the signal out. High above the planet, a small vessel picked up the message and started a descent into the atmosphere of the planet.
