Jayme tossed stuff and rations into her duffle, she paused to run her fingers through her hair. She was feeling trapped, depressed, and couldn't focus her thoughts. She looked at the map of the area and decided to take a couple of days and head into the wilderness. There was a buzz at the door and she turned and waved Kama into her quarters while she plopped down on the edge of her bed to review the stuff she'd packed. "Morning." Jayme said not making eye contact.
"Seems you are busy." Kama said and she stared at her friend, feeling she was maybe coming at a bad time after all.
"I can't stand it anymore and just need to get away for a few days. Going camping--leaving Nico and the SAR group to hold down the fort."
"Can I come with you?" Kama asked pointing at her packings, which she dropped at the door. "I have had it as well. Wanted to tell you I was planning to go on a trip. Would not mind company though."
Jayme shrugged and said, "Sure fine, you can come -- or do you know of any interesting places?"
"I do, one I got from a friend who went to explore, a place deep down in the forest, where no one comes...
"Sounds good. How are we going to get there by bike, foot, sled, or transporter?"
"He said you can only get there on foot, it is two days walking..."
"Fine, lets go." Jayme moved to pick up one of her packs and slung it over a shoulder and locked up after Kama exited and picked up her own gear. She saw Kama watching her closesly and asked, "what?"
"You look worn down and in very much need of some rest. I think you need a holiday..." Grin.
"No shit." Between running part of this base and working on my med degree and Nathan and I living have a world apart... I just can't seem to get it together."
"Then come with me and enjoy the outdoors." She says calm.
"I haven't seen you and marki together lately? Is everything between you okay?" Jayme fallowed Kama where they got into a sked and headed for the mountainous area.

"I understand---I think." Kama was driving so Jayme rested both feet up on the dask and slouched down in the seat and let the wind whip her hair around. I got a letter from my mother this week---same shit different day."
"What elses is new, Kama complained that I spent to much time with that friend I told you about, the one who discovered that camping spot." She sighed. "It is like she's jealous."
"You said 'he' now several times..." Jayme made eye contact and then added, "Marki is jealous. She loves you--everyone knows it, but she is working and studying too so I can understand the difficulties."
"She has no reasons to be jealous, when she was gone so often, I had more time off, and I spent it with Skaren, you know that halfblood Klingon, he had not much to do either..."
"yeah I know who he is. Why do you think I assigned you both seperate quarters when we were stationed here instead of letting you guys share a larger appartment. close action like what we experinced can change people... I knew you'd need your own space.
"Thank you, I was already befriended with Skaren when we were still on the starbase, then she accepted it, and I do not understand why she is jealous, I mean come on.. the guy does not look at me like I am his next lover..."
"I'm certainly not an expert on relationships; but she is probably feeling insecure and jealous for Skaren, and because I seperated your quarters and she may not realize that it was my doing and not your request. Why didn't you drag her out on this trip for some quality time?"
"She did not want to come, she said I hated her, I think I better let her cool off."
"And when she learns that you didn't go alone but with me; what do you think?"
"She will be even more jealous, but she has to learn I have a life as well, I mean what is our relationship worth, if I cannot have fun with my colleagues and have other friends like you and Skaren?"
"Maybe we need to force her to include herself or to find her own friends outside of us...or this relationship is over and the only saving grace would be to transfer her out."
Jayme chewed on her thumb nail and noted that the weather was changing and that they would probably have to set up camp in the middle of a storm.
"This is nice weather, is what Skaren would say, a nice day to camp, that guy is really nuts sometimes..."
"Yeah great for getting pneumonia." Jayme said with a chuckle and closed her eyes and just left the driving to Kama. She drifted off to sleep.
Kama shook her head and smiled, she just hoped this vacation would clear some space between her and Marki.. and that it would make her sleeping friend feel better..

Several hours later the vehicle came to a stop and Kama climbed out and was stretching her back and legs before pulling several ration packs our of her gear and a large bottle of water. Jayme sat up and looked around and started to climb out of the vehicle when Kama handed her the water bottle at the rations pack.
She opened the foil pack and found that it was corn soup, crackers, jerky, and chocolate.
"Thanks."
"Hey you do need to eat you know.." She opened her own pack which held chicken soup and some pancakes.
"I know. I did pack rations too. So this campsite is several hours by foot you said? How will we know when we finally reach it?"
"I know because I have a map." She tossed Jayme a handwritten map, in Klingon style and writing. "At least I learned Klingon, it is hard to believe Skaren is half human the way he acts.."
Jayme glanced at the map, which basically mean nothing to her, 'ok. After lunch you lead." Jayme wasn't looking forward to a difficult climb but oh well she was here.
Kama ate the last of her food. "The climb is steep, but Skaren said it was not so bad as it looked.
"Ok,"Jayme said climbing out of the vehicle, storing her trash, and shouldering her pack. Both women found the trail and started climbing.
Kama liked the climb, there were many beautiful places to see from the height they were on. "He was right, it is beautiful.." She panted and climbed on.
Jayme slowly make the climb behind her friend and was very surprised by the veiw.
"And then you hear a Klingon say he liked it.."She grins.
Finally the reached the area where someone had camped pretty recently under an outcroping of stone and had pretty decent protect on both sides and from where she was standing she could hear running water and there were some logs around a fire pit. Both women stashed their gear under the over hang and walked towards the running water with a few containers and on the way back started collecting wood for a small fire.
