"Nature Hike"

Earthdate: November 5, 2386
Location: Serenity

Jayme woke when the sun reached under the over hang they'd made camp under and looked about. Kama was no where in sight and that was just fine, Jayme wasn't in a very chatty mood. She found some coffee on the campfire and poured a cup before grabbing a towel shorts, and tshirt and headed down river to a place she'd spotted when they'd arrived the night before

She finished her coffee and laid the towel down on the huge boulder over looking a tranquil teal green pool with a falls dropping into it and spilling out the bottom. The major sat her knife infront of her and then kneeled on the towel and sat with eyes closed meditating.

Kama returned from her walk and sat down herself, not willing to disturb Jayme. She suspected the woman had many issues to deal with, and she had the feeling it was not something to take lightly. She called it a gut feeling that Jayme had some sort of depression. Silently she eyed Jayme, keeping an eye on her, as a silent guard....

The senior of the two cracked one eye open and squinted against the sun and said, "Shouldn't sneak up one people like that Kama... Come join me in soaking up the sun, or take yourself off for a swim--I don't need a keeper. If I wanted that I'd have gone home for the weekend to Nathan and Karissa."

"Hmm? what? Sorry I was daydreaming I think.." She said innocent, looking at Jayme with a smile. "I am in no way planning to play guard, why would I? This is my vacation!" She sat down and bathed in the sunlight, but she was still keeping an eye on Jayme, she just felt something was not right...

"Say, why would Karissa and Nathan play keeper for you anyway?" She asked innocently. "Are you working too hard again?"

"Yes and No, I've just kind of been hiding on base away from everyone, and everything right now. I got a letter from that person who calls herself my mother...really kind of got to me. I have some decissions I need to make her real soon--I might be leaving the SFMC--for instance. This living half a planet way from Nathan is getting to me. Then on top of everything I may be pregnant..." She saw the other marine twitch and then look away. "My lifes a mess Kama." Jayme said quietly to the other woman. "That's why Nathan and Karissa a worried--plus I didn't tell them I was coming out here and I didn't bring my communicator...I wanted to think,"

"You are pregnant? Oh well, that is no surprise actually... but I do not know, maybe it's not you who has to quit working here, maybe it is Nathan who has to ask for a transfer. This is not working, I can see that, but without your work you die of boredom, that far I know you. And I did bring a communicator, but I have not switched it on; since, I told some people where I would go. Skaren knows for starters, and people saw us together, and now I know this-- I won't be surprised if he suddenly shows up here with a rescue party or something!" She rolled her eyes.

"And your mother is a bitch...and how does she know your pregnant? I do not get why you even bother about what she has to say, you have your own life, just ignore her, break contact with her if you must.." Kama looked at her.

"No matter how big a bitch she is ...she's still my mother." Jayme stood and looked the 3 meters down to the pools smooth surface, and then added, "I really don't care about her as much as what is possibly between Nathan and myself...question is...is this his baby?" With that she dove off the edge of the boulder and into the clear crisp water below. She treaded water for a minute and saw Kama dive from the exact same spot. Both women swam for the edge of the pool. Hanging on to the edge wiping water from her face and her hair back, Jayme said, "I haven't done any paternal typing...not sure I want to...if its not nathans then this is a result of what happened on the McCoy."

"Oh terriffic, and what are you planning to do then? I mean, tell Nathan it is not his and keep it? Or maybe an intentional miscarriage?" Kama looked at her friend. "Its been too long for it to have happened on the McCoy.

"Hmmm," Jayme said stopping to think, then added,"I hadn't thought it through that far..."

"I just want you to think logical, sometimes Vulcans are handy with that, but... since we aren't Vulcan, we have to do it another way, I mean, think logical, only the facts, what must you do then?" She wanted Jayme to start thinking, pay attention for once...

"I think, I am going to swim a bit and then call Nathan and talk to him or maybe just go take a nap and wait to see what happens...another 24 hours either way isn't going to make much difference... He's going to want to do the medical exams and tests right away...I'm not up for that yet...way to tired and emotional about this."

"I'll go with you, you can lend you my communicator if you wanna talk to someone." Kama said, she got up to get her swimsuit, and a towel and a book from the campsite, she was planning to get a tan now she had the chance. But she was in no way planning to leave Jayme alone, not a chance she would!

Jayme stood running her fingers through her hair and shaking some of the excess water out of it. "You don't need to go back to camp with me...I can find your communicator, and pack us some lunch, and bring your suit if you really want it...but your clothes are already wet...just strip down and enjoy the sun...it will only be light for a few more hours. I'm not going to do anything stupid... Oh, maybe you don't want to be nude sunbathing just incase we get surprise company--"Jayme smiled.

Jayme walked off as the other woman did as suggested since she was wet...she did look around just to make sure no one had direct view of her sunbathing.

At camp, Jayme found Kama's communicator and accessed it as she through together a picknic lunch. She was patched through to his automated message center and she said, "Sorry, went on a short vacation to do some thinking...you can reach me on Kama Dayrine's comsignal...I'll try calling again in a little bit. Love Jayme--"

Later that evening a storm started blowing in and rain was coming down in sheets. The wind was blowing it in under the over hang threatening to put out the fire, both women were soaked and had gone to the river bed to gather rocks to build a partial wall to protect the fire from the worst of the storm. Kama pulled out her communicator and found that she couldn't get an uplink to starfleet. "Damn," she exclaimed, "I can't get a signal through...no way to signal that we are ok or that we need to have SAR come after us. Jayme shrugged and sat against the cave wall and hugged her knees to her chest and watched the fire burn. And thought to herself that at least the weather now matched how she was feeling inside.
