The wind gusted and swirled a cloud of wet leaves and dirt farther into the cave where the two women sat huddled trying to dry out after being soaked gathering wood just before the storm struck full force. Jayme rested with her head on her knees and huddled around them.
"Oh great, when we go camping hell breaks loose..." Kama grunted. "I came here to get some rest!"
Jayme looked up and over at the Sergeant, and said, "we have the fire and we've buildt the wall to give it some shelter from the wind...lean up against me and take a nap." She then rested her head back down on her knees.
"Did you manage to save the communicator?" Kama suddenly asked.
"No, that went swimming when I slipped and fell into the now ragging ice cold river. I doubt we could get an uplink to Starfleet with all of this atmospheric interferance anyway...and I came out here to be out of touch... and 'out of touch' is what I've gotten, uhhh."
"Yes I have noticed, but I know Skaren, I bet he comes running here when the enviromental computer shows what happened.." Kama relaxes. "We'll make it, I am not that worried.."
"We're Marines, we've been a lot worse off...puff ...this is nothing," she said trying to keep her teeth from chattering. "SAR, Search and Rescue, won't be able to fly until some of this storm has blown itself out...We'll be here at least until morning maybe even longer." Jayme said resting back against the wall of the cave not caring if it sucked heat out of her.
"And I know a certain Klingon caring about his honor, and a little bit of water and wind won't stop him..." Kama grinned. "And you are the one not liking that, I do.. saves me a walking through the cold."
" So is this the rough patch you and Marki have been suffering through...you've fallen for this Klingon male?" Jayme paused to watch some lightening strikes close to their camp and then added, "I mean your here, she isn't, you've mention him a lot and her none... Can't help but wonder Kama."
"He makes me smile, but he has an eye on his partner T'learn, the truth is every time I see Marki, she starts yelling at me, and because I cannot stand that I flee to Skaren who likes me as a friend and treats me as such.. I think he gets T'learn in his clutches sooner or later and I will help him if I can." She grinned.
"Ah." Jayme said huddling closer in her damp jacket. She watched as the other woman added another piece of wood to the fire and sit back. The cave vibrated with the force of the thunder and strikes near them. "Damn," she said counting from the light to the thunder and it was at two...very close indead. She rested her head back down and wished she'd fall into a deep warm sleep that would never end...
Kama stared at the fire, did she really tell the truth, did she start to see her best friend in another light? No impossible...
Jayme stayed quiet with her eyes closed but could still see the flashes and hear the wind and the trees and the thunder...and Kama's breathing beside her.
Kama fell asleep, sitting at the fire, she was not afraid of a little lightning, no matter how close it came...
