*Marine Base/ Science Lab !*
Tyvek had volunteered to be the Watch Duty Commander at the base on the eve of the terran holiday. Normally he would have found some down time to enter into mind meld and reflect upon his past.
T'was the Night before Christmas and Tyvek was remembering his mother.
Meanwhile those of the terran persuasion that still practiced the holiday had gathered at a nearby make shift chapel commonly called the mess hall. Being Vulcan, it would not have been acceptable to join them. Being half human, gave him reason to join them.
* The Chapel !*
Only a hand full of Marines and their families had gone to the service, a combination of protestant and catholic worshippers. No priest, but the Marine Chaplain was doing his best to accommodate. Tyvek slipped in and sat down on the last seat in he second row.
“Welcome Brother," the Chaplain said as he walked back to greet him.
"Greetings, Major." Replied Tyvek.
“Are you lost Lieutenant ?" asked the Major.
“No, not in the sense of the question you pose. I will be leaving in five minutes, might I partake of the communion, in private ?" asked Tyvek.
This quizzed the Major.
"Lieutenant this is most interesting. I have never had a Vulcan attend one of my services. Why would a Vulcan wish to take of the Host ?" He asked again.
Tyvek arose in preparation to leave.
"It is a promise to my Mother. One of her last wishes of me was to remember our Christmas's together. I make a tradition to attend service, and to accept the host on Christmas Eve.
“A most honourable tradition Lieutenant." Replied the Chaplain.
The services neared an end and all of the congregation took the communion and soon returned home or back to duty. Then the Chaplain brought him a small cup of the wine and a wafer.
"In as much as you eat of this you remember our Lord's sacrifice. The wine is a type and shadow of his blood for our sins." concluded the Chaplain.
Tyvek ingested the host and soon departed the chow hall. He had fulfilled his promise to his mothers memory.
