Aidan had goen beyond the point of being antsy hopefully she'd finally be able to return to the base. While members of her Wing had visited her holiday season so far hadn't really been one she wanted to rmember. Currently she was attempting to occupy her time with a book on flgiht tactics.
Jayme left Nathan down in the conference room with Dr. Hancock. She walked to the third floor and hated to think about her up coming session with Karissa, but was looking forward to seeing Aidan...she had a surprise for the other woman. She arrived at Karissa's office and then entered.
After the appointment Jayme left with a slight headache. She walked over to Aidans room and knocked.
"Come in," Aidan replied. At the moment she wasn't expecting any visitors so she was rather surprised to hear someone knock on her door.
"Hey, there gimpy..." Jayme said entering and taking a seat. She noted that Aidan still had the brace on her knee and crutches in the corner. "Would you like to get that brace off?"
"Geting the brace off would be good but finally getting to go home to the base would be even better," Aidan was totally honest with her reply.
"One step at a time, beside the shuttle for base doesn't leave for another six hours." Jayme stood feeling very pregnant and said, "Lets hike down to the trauma center and see if Nate can remove that with minimal pain and irritation. I know you expected to get it off several weeks a go but he's being really concervative."
"I know he is and I know I screwed up but I'd like to start getting some strength back into this leg with proper supervision," Aidan replied as she stood, "Besides you know I'm just tired of this place. Rumor has it you have a new physical therapist thats part of your RRU."
"I understand," Jayme said holding the door open for the other woman. "I've talked to Karissa and she would like to see you today before she lets you leave on a pass tonight. I've already made arrangements for Keely to evaluate you tomorrow and set you up on a routine."
They walked to the center and found Nate leaning against the wall arms crossed near a treatment room.
"On a pass? I've already committed to seeing her on a regular basis I'm not about to mess up a good thing if they finally release me," Aidan commented as they walked. Since the accident her attitude had changed a lot. The top priority on Aidan's list at the moment was to heal fully so she could return to active duty.
"Hey, hey,hey...Don't get upset about the 'pass'. I'm technically out on a pass." She nodded and waited for Aidan to take a seat on the biobed. Jayme moved to scrub up and then moved into assist Nathan in the procedure when he cleared his throat and crossed his arms and said, "Jayme--you're on your own. I saw you studying this on the flight and I'll supervise."
Jayme took a deep breath and then moved around to the other side of the bed and started to prep the screw sites. She picked up a syringe with a micro fine needle, and said, "you will feel a sting and some burning," and numbed the ten sites and waited for several minutes. "Next step is to back out the screws. You shouldn't feel anything but let me know if you do."
"Oh I think you'll easily notice if I do. You've seen my true response to pain," Aidan responded seriously.
"Ok, here we go." Less then ten minutes later Jayme had the brace off and the sites auto sutured. "Okay. I'm done." She sat the head of the bed up and looked to Nathan. "Does she still need the crutches?"
He stepped away from the wall and did his own exam of strength and motion. "Yeah, but she can bear as much weight on it as she can tolerate and start working out with the physical rehab specialist."
Aidan was glad to hear that she could start putting some weight on the knew again even if she still had to use the crutches for a bit longer. "Thanks," the response directed at both Nathan and Jayme.
"No problem. Jayme, you need to escort the Major up to the ward and then come back and finish working this shift with me." He stepped out and left the two women alone."
Jayme helped Aidan up and walked with her to the third floor. "Meet with Karissa, and I'll come up and get you when its time to leave." Jayme squeezed the others arm and turned and headed back down to the ER with her blue lab jacket on.
"I'll see you later Jayme," Aidan replied.
Five hours later Jayme and Nathan walked to the 3rd floor and was joined by Aidan and the three-some headed out to the roof to meet there transport back to base.
