Puerto Azul: Mama Rosa’s |
Jack and Katreya had been back on Puerto Azul for the last two weeks. Originally they were suppose to be there for Christmas, but instead they had spent Christmas together on Serenity . . . Treya, Jack felt, had needed the quiet. The days had been spent with the family Treya had grown to love – especially Mama Rosa. Treya had so missed having a mother of her own. And like all mothers Mama Rosa had known something had been on her adopted daughter’s mind.
Finally in a quiet moment when Jack was off with the men and the other women were shopping, she went to Treya who was sitting quietly in the garden reading notes on a PADD. It seemed she did that a lot.
Mama Rosa came into the garden and handed her girl a fruity drink that had just a touch of tequila. “You look like you could use this,” she smiled, sitting in the other chair.
The sky was a beautiful shade of blue with only hints of clouds. The sun was bright, though in the garden there was shade from the many trees and bushes.
Treya took the drink with a smile. “Thanks,” she said as she sipped it. “Oh, this is good!”
“Every day I see you reading and taking notes,” she said. “Is this work quite important?”
Treya nodded. “Yeah . . . Actually it’s very important . . .”
“Is this what has you worried?” Mama Rosa asked,
Treya immediately met the woman’s eyes with surprise. No one had ever been able to read her like this woman could . . . anyone that wasn’t telepathic. “It’s that obvious?” she asked.
Mama Rosa shrugged her shoulders. “I am a mother . . . I notice these things . . . So what is this about?”
“Well, as you know, I’m an archaeologist,” she said. “And my research is about the Arterians . . . an ancient race that disappeared long ago. They possessed great wealth and power. But I’m looking for something called the Temple of Light.”
Mama Rosa’s eyes knit together. “The Temple of Light?” she repeated as if not hearing it completely . . . a memory was coming forward.
“You’ve heard of it?” Treya asked.
Mama Rosa nodded. “It was a legend told to us as children . . . of the gods long ago . . . That all their power was stored there before they left for another place . . . You cannot possible believe it is true?”
“The Temple of Light is said to be the place where great power and riches are to be found . . .” she said. “It’s the legend that’s been handed down . . . and . . . I need to find it.”
“Even if you find it, the place is cured . . .” Mama Rosa replied. “That’s what we were also told. Those who seek it, seek death.”
Treya shook her head as tears misted her eyes. “Not me . . .”
“And why is that?”
“The race that left this behind was called the Arterians. I found one of their sacred sites,” she said. “And . . .” It was hard for her to put it into words of what she’d been through and what she was still going through. “It was called the Hall of Knowledge and . . . the whole of the Arterians history and gifts were given to me. I didn’t ask for the way they came, but I have it. I’m . . . the new blood line . . .”
“I do not understand,” Mama Rosa said with concern.
“I was hit by several beams of light,” she said. “And now my mind is filled with the history and culture of these people. And it did more to me too . . . It’s changed me . . .” She wiped tears that trickled down her cheeks. “Jack should be afraid of me . . . of what I can now do, but he’s not. He still loves me . . .”
“Of course, he does,” she replied taking the young woman’s hand. “He loves you.”
“And I love him, Mama,” she said softly. “But I’m not just a Tanzaran anymore . . . I have these . . . these abilities and they scare me! I can see things before they happen. Energy shoots out of my hands . . . He should be scared of me . . .”
So this is what was bothering her newest daughter. “Jack knows your heart and no matter what else happens to you, he knows he can trust that.”
“There are people out there that want the Temple of Light,” she said.
“There are always people out there like that searching for power and wealth,” Mama Rosa said.
Treya nodded. “But I think they have my brother . . .”
Mama Rosa’s brows knit together again. “Are you sure?” she asked.
Treya shook her head. She had no idea if Michael was even alive. “Then do not worry so . . . If you can see the future, perhaps you can see where he is.”
“I haven’t had another vision in at least a month’s time . . .”
“Perhaps if you tried to meditate,” Mama Rosa replied. “I can sense your worry . . . your fears. But we are all here for you, Treya. Your family is here for you . . . and the man that you love will be by your side. Just believe in yourself . . . don’t fight was is happening, since it doesn’t appear you can. Accept it . . . perhaps then, the answers you seek will come to you.”
Treya smiled squeezed Rosa’s hand. “Thank you, Mama Rosa . . .”
Rosa smiled.
Suddenly Jack came back with bags in hand. “Hey, Mama, your sons and I got enough stuff for a barbeque to feed the city,” he smiled.
“Ah, good!” she smiled as she got to her feet, giving Treya a knowing smile. She then followed them inside.
Treya thought about the entire conversation and she made a decision. She was going to try to meditate that night and see what visions it would bring.
