Tara Carmichael was born in Stratford upon Avon, England. She lived
there with her parents until she was 6 years old. Her father, an Industrial
Engineer, got a job in Athens, Greece and moved his family there. Her
life up until that point was very normal. Her mother was a homemaker.
Around that same time, Tara's mother became pregnant and gave birth
to Tara's little brother Ryan. Tara adored her little brother and was
always willing to help with him. Then, when she was 12 years old, her
mother, coming back home from a visit with friends in Italy, was attacked
by road bandits. They caused her car to crash in the hills. She died
upon impact. Ryan, who was with her, was left in a coma for a month
before he too died. After their deaths, Tara's father treated her like
she was nonexistent. They grew apart and the pain his emotional distance
caused was terrible. It was bad enough that she had lost her mother
and brother, but she had also lost her father on an emotional level.
The car crash took her family away from her.
As
soon as she turned 16 she left home and never looked back. After finishing
her schooling while working odd jobs to make ends meet, she joined the
Athens Police Department. She passed the Academy and testing with flying
colors and went up in the ranks quickly, achieving the status of Commander;
The youngest person ever to receive that rank. But when the Taelons
arrived, Tara just knew that that was where she was suppose to be and
put in her application. She was accepted immediately and became Ta'al's
Protector - his Head of Security. He was the Companion to the Mediterranean.
He had also seen to it that she had received a modified CVI, though
she did not know this at the time. She would find out later that her
CVI lacked an MI (Motivational Imperative - to serve the Taelons best
interests in all things). She and Ta'al developed a very deep relationship.
She looked at this Companion as her family -- Her ONLY family. When
things started looking bad within the Commonality for him because of
his differing views on humanity, he transferred her for her safety.
She knew something was wrong and wanted to stay with him, but he wouldn't
change his mind. She was transferred to the US Taelon Division as Zo'or's
Head of Security. She learned very quickly how different she was from
some of the other Implants and changed her behavior accordingly. However,
she was befriended by William Boone who did seem much like herself.
When he passed way she was heartbroken, but what made things worse was
that Ta'al had been ordered to die by the Synod. This almost pushed
Tara over the edge. But Grace Whitney (another Companion Agent and Liberation
Spy) stopped her from taking her own life and presented her with the
option of joining the Resistance. She did, though it was clear that
she and Doors DID NOT get along.
It took her awhile, but she began making friends. On a mission to the
sunken lands of Atlantis to grab any and all tech items there, she and
Commander James Christian got to know each other. He too lacked and
MI, but was loyal to the Taelons, or his Taelon Ra'el. Inside one of
the underwater temples, Tara was hit with a beam that gave her knowledge
of the Atlanteans and their abilities began to form in her. The two
companion Agents barely made it out of Atlantis alive as it imploded
in upon itself. The shock wave almost killed them. However, it was after
that, Tara learned of her telepathic abilities, since James and his
wife Jen were Telepathic. A gift granted them by Ra'el. As time went
on, she was also able to read minds. She helped rescue Grace's kidnapped
husband and aligned herself with the Ta'az - The Taelon Rebellion. Her
goal was to eventually bring down Zo'or.
At one point, however, she also unwittingly became part of an experiment
of Zo'or's. Once Grace Whitney became pregnant questions were raised.
He wanted to know if an Implant really could lose control and have a
fling in the heat of the moment with their MI in place. He never suspected
Tara lacked one. He set Tara and Ron Sandoval up with pheromones genetically
matched to one another. What made things more difficult was that Tara
actually saw into Sandoval's mind and realized who he really was and
the secrets he was hiding. The pheromones that they were exposed to
had helped to create the situation for them getting together. In the
end, not only did Tara end up with feeling for him (which were returned),
but she became pregnant. However, since she was also involved with Ryan
MacLeod, her assistant, she didn't know who the father of her child
was, and for several months she wasn't ready to find out, because either
way, one of the men she loved would be hurt. She was then transferred
to the United Kingdom/Ireland Taelon Division with Ryan MacLeod as Na'ar's
Head of Security, but Sandoval still kept in touch with her continuously.
At one time when she almost lost the baby due to preterm labor brought
about by stress as one of the contributing factors. She finally agreed
to a DNA scan of her child. It was confirmed that the baby was Ron Sandoval's.
Ryan was visibly upset. After she was released, Tara had given him an
option, either he could transfer and remember their love together or
she could allow him to change his memories. He allowed her to alter
his memories into those of friendship. He didn't remember that they
were ever more than friends.
Ron
and Tara had been making plans to try to keep their child safe from
Zo'or, since the Taelon had something in mind for their child, but they
didn't know what. It was a concern until this twist of fate brought
her and Ryan MacLeod here to SB901 and to this new life. At first, she
had trouble dealing with the life she left behind. But once that was
resolved she embraced her new life fully.
Lt. Kassia, the counselor aboard Starbase 901 helped her get a position
in Security. She trained for her position very quickly with the help
of her CVI and took on the challenge of being Chief of Security. She
has adapted very well to her new life on the station, though she misses
those she left behind in her dimension. However with her CVI, they are
never truly gone from her. She and Ryan MacLeod continue to be close
friends. She has also engaged in a serious relationship with Jayson
Sandoval. Her baby's father's alternate in this universe, and on February
8, 2385 they welcomed Zoe into the universe.
With Starbase 901 being dismantled and moved, Tara and Jayson talked
seriously of what they wanted not just for themselves, but for their
daughter as well. Together they decided it was best to move planet-side.
They found positions on the Serenity City Police Force and decided to
take them.
Tara is now the Chief of Police for Serenity City and looking forward
to this new job and her new home.
