Reliving classic dime novels in the Holosuites. Has a fasination with late American History 19th Cent. Plays Holodeck recreations of the old West. Reads Sherlock Holmes whenever possible. Has a vast collection of Western antqiues.

Background

Daniel retired from Star Fleet early, following his lifelong dream of being a frontier Law Enforcement officer. In 2386 his wish was granted as Captain of Serenity's Police force. Under his leadership he managed to have a professional force of 65 Officers, and 30 reserve officers. He runs his force like a Star Fleet Security force.

Captain Hayward is very keen on his privacy and keeps his Star Fleet Service rather quiet. In reality he was upset at his being passed over for promotion twice which was why he was forced to retire.

He works very hard and seems to only spend a few of his off hours in the local bar. He's an avid reader of Sherlock Holmes and the cheap dective novels from the 1930's and 40's from earth.
