Joel Palatio was born on New City on the moon. He grew up there not
thinking much about the stars, they where just far off places. He concentrated
on becoming a Zero
G-Soccer player and was happy just playing, he taught he was going
to be a professional now that the game was coming back.
His dreams of playing ball where shattered when he lost his parents
in a decompression accident in one of the travel-tubes between cities.
Their tram exploded. Finding himself utterly alone he took the Starfleet
academy test, to get away from the place that took his parents, he passed
the test and before he new it he was on Earth at the Academy. He had
never been there even thought it was so close.
The place was more beautiful than he expected, there he learned everything
he could. Those were four hard years he spend at the Academy, but the
constant business kept his mind off his parents.
He graduated and his first assignment was aboard a science ship. The
U.S.S Yosemite, an Oberth class vessel, there he learned many new things.
On stardate Nov 11 2374 the starship's deflector shield was taken off
line for modifications, while in repair the ship came under attack by
an unexpected meteor shower.
The Young ensign was on the bridge with other ensigns and one Lieutenant.
The Lieutenant stood there motionless and failed to act. Ensign Palatio
jumped into action and ordered the ship away from the storm. They got
a little battered but survived by the ensign's quick thinking.
A month later the Ensign received a commendation and was transferred
to the U.S.S Lakota, an Excelsior Class vessel, as Lieutenant J.G. and
transferred to science. He proved his worth many times and got promoted
to Lieutenant Commander and got yet another transfer. He went to serve
on a scout class ship, The U.S.S Locust. That assignment was uneventful,
just going up and down the neutral zone. He asked for a transfer and
got moved to a small station near the Romulan border.
He had being there only for a few months when someone involved the
station in an incident with a Klingon ship, that almost got the station
destroyed; his quick thinking saved them again. He knew how much Klingons
loved to prove themselves in hand-to-hand combat and called the enemy
and challenged the captain of that ship to an honor fight. Joel's own
Captain was in sickbay getting bandage up so the Klingon Captain believed
Joel was in command and accepted. The Prize was if Joel won, the enemy
would go on his way. If they lost oh well, they would become prisoners,
but most likely dead men.
The Klingon stood a head taller than Palatio. They circled each other
in the small cargo bay. The Klingon went for Joel with a kick. Joel
deflected the groin blow and hit the Klingon in the face with an open
palm. The impact broke the Klingon's nose. While the Klingon was dazed
Joel didn't hesitate and quickly came at the Klingon with several hand
hits to the enemy's neck and head. Followed by a few sidekicks and Ax-kicks
to the midsection, knees, and head, the Klingon fell unconscious with
broken ribs and a broken knee. Joel touched his communicator and ordered
the Klingon to be transported to his ship. Joel knew that a Klingon
that didn't die in battle was dishonored. His was correct the Klingons
withdrew quickly.
He got promoted yet again and was sent to a new colony to be in command
of a station there.
